PSC 1610 black and white print options Mac 10.6.6

Hi all, I just got a new computer -  an i-mac 10.6.6. I downloaded the latest print driver for my printer HP PSC 1610 but I am wondering if the antiquity of the printer means that I am not getting all of the options that I should. On my old computer I was able to print in black and white ie. I had 'black' as an option. Now I have four options which are - photo paper; plain paper, best; plain paper, fast draft; and finally, plain paper, fast draft, black and white. I tried the last option but frankly it wasn't that great - I just want the same quality as standard but in black - is that impossible??? Any help much appreciated.
