Printer and scanner updated its firmware and no longer works

Its a 6500 A plus,  and it updated the firmware and now it will only print one or two pages and then prints jibberish across the top of each page,  if you stop the printing then it will say paper is jammed when there is no paper in it, and when you clear it you get a printer error code.  It will no longer comunicate for scanning and you can't scan or copy from the printer itself.

 

I tried to reinstall the firmware from the computer and  it says that it is up to date.   I called HP and they want to charge me to fix (NO way)

 

What should I do
