Printer driver software problem for photosmart 2610

I have problems with all my print jobs going to the print queue, so I called support and they had me uninstall all parts that had to do with my printer.  Since I had purchased a a cd from hp by mail I figured it would be no problem to reinstall.  I try to install this cd and it gets halfway done and an error message says if I continue with this install it could corrupt my files.  I stopped of course and now I have nothing but a printer that can only copy.  Do I send for another useless disc from hp, (by the way this is the same cd that hp is currently selling on the web site version 4.70 dated 2006) or where do I go from here?
