Use Windows XP on desktop. HP Photosmart 2610 All-in-One Printer is attached. On Dec. 30 downloaded & installed Microsoft's "Security Update for Microsoft NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2656353)". Later scanned a document and saved it to file as a TIFF. Then opened HP Document Viewer. The new document was there along with others. Found that when I tried to open page view of any TIFF document I got the following message: "Active X controls accept only Fonts that are defined in GraphicsUnit. Point. Parameter name:font." When I clicked on OK at the end of that message, the Document Viewer thumbprints screen reappeared. When I tried again to see the page view of the TIFF document, I got the following message: "This program has encountered an unexpected error. Active X controls accept only Fonts that are defined in GraphicsUnit. Point. Parameter name:font." When I clicked on OK at the end of the message, the computer exited Document Viewer. Please note: When I reopened Document Viewer, I found (1) this problem occurred with all TIFF documents. (2) Documents that did not rely on HP software to open (such as PDFs, Word documents) opened fine.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP 2610. Same problem with HP Document Viewer.
Then I remembered that the HP 2610 uses NET Framework 1.1.
Eventual solution: Uninstalled HP 2610, removed the Microsoft Security Update, then reinstalled the HP 2610. HP Document Viewer now works as before.
BUT: Now I don't have the Security Update to NET Framework 1.1 SP1 that Microsoft recommends.
QUESTON: What can I do to keep HP software working properly AND have the Microsoft Security Update installed?

Could you reply with details about your computer setup etc.
OS Version (XP Vista etc)
Connection (USB Network)
How you use the HP Docuemnt Viewer App, as we may have something that replaced it that could help.
And any other information that may be relevent.

I am also having this same issue since the MS .NET Security update mentioned here. The computer OS is XP Pro with the latest updates over a USB connection to an HP OfficeJet 5510. This is happening under HP Document Viewer 1.0 when double clicking on a scanned TIFF document. The HP Document Viewer program was obtained from the latest driver file PS5510_342.exe (HP Webpack 184.108.40.206, internal name 7zS.sfx, with a digital signature of Wednesday, May 25, 2011 10:46:42 PM)

My system is Windows XP Home Edition, updated to SP3. In case it matters, I use Office 2002 and Internet Explorer 8. My HP Photosmart 2610 All-in-One Printer is directly connected to my desktop computer using the USB cable that came with the printer. I use cable broadband to connect to the Internet.
I store documents in digital format. Hard drives sometimes crash, so I back-up files. Documents that I store in this manner do not have to be beautiful, but they have to be legible both onscreen and if I choose to print them.
First, I scan the document in using the scan function in HP Director, with settings for no editable text and no graphics. An 8.5 x 11 inch page gets saved as a 3.58MB TIFF document. Then I open HP Document Viewer, click on the thumbnail for the TIFF document, and open it. From there I can save it in numerous formats. Typically, I save it as a 1-bit PDF. Thus, a 3.58MB TIFF document goes down to a 25KB PDF.
With the Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 (KB2656353) installed, the HP Document Viewer cannot open a TIFF document, and I get the error messages noted in the original post. With the Security Update removed, HP Document Viewer works.

Sorry for my late reply.
I have been looking into this issue to see if we can help you out.
I would suggest that you download a later version of the HP Full Solution Software, this version will upgrade all the software componants to the later version to get around the problem with the .NET Security update.
The version I would recommend would be this one
This is the Version 7 software for the Photosmart 3300 printer.
I would recommend that you install the software and when the install asks how you are going to connect the printer choose USB and then on the next screen choose that you will install the printer later.
This will complete the install and update the componants.
I hope this is understandable?

Please confirm the link in the above response. According to the web page it was released 2009-08-15 while the the problem manifest itself some time in late 2011. Furthermore the current files in my previous posting were dated in 2011. Please clarify, this solution does not make sense.

The suggested solution above fails to install due to missing registry keys dealing with encryption! :-(

I am working on a solution for you.
I have found a newer version of Document Manager, I just have to track down the software and make sure you can download it.
Sorry to mess you around.

Hi Jon W, this is mackv2. I have read the posts for March 19 and 20, and I am not sure who you are responding to at this point.
On March 19, you advised using software that was issued on 8-15-2009 for a Photosmart 7700.
Ed_K says he is using an OfficeJet 5510 with software from 2011.
I am using a Photosmart 2610. I have the latest full-feature software for that product, rub_w01_Americas_Euro1_NB.exe, 2009-09-09, Version 4.71, 428.8MB.
On March 20, after Ed_K reported a problem, you said you had found a newer version of Document Viewer and had to track down and check out the software.
Are you now working on a single solution that would (potentially) work on the OfficeJet 5510 and the Photosmart 2610?
