I purchased a duplexer for my HP OfficeJet 7210 running under Vista and installed it. After setting the driver up for duplex operation it would only print with the top edge for binding instead of the left edge which was what I wanted. I downloaded the latest driver from HPs web site. Uninstalled the old driver, rebooted, and installed the downloaded driver got the same results. I read through HPs FAQs and didn't see anything as a fix. Contacted HP Customer Support via e-mail and they responded promptly but everything suggested didn't work.
While downloading one of the drivers suggested, I found a link to the HP Support Forum and searched for 'duplexer'. The first message I read was exactly the problem I was having.
In it Mr. Headrick said he had a patched that should work and would send it out if he received an e-mail requesting it. I sent an e-mail and the next day I had the patch, installed it, and my problem was fixed.
Thanks Mr. Headrick.

I've already written to Bob, requesting the proper patch for my 7410 all-in-one. I shall save it, and treasure it, after installing it of course.
I cannot believe that HP has never addressed this duplexing situation, especially condisering the amount of models effected by this problem. They really dropped the ball big time, and so it boggles the mind that they could wonder why they lose customers???
After I switched to Vista in 2007, I went through HP customer service on line, on the phone, and even composed a detailed complaint to the office of the president of HP regarding how onerous, and frankly how ecologically unsound not giving their customers workable duplexing drivers was. I got a reply from some new MBA hireling who did not know a power cord from a keyboard. I really wanted to toss the machine out a window, but kept struggling through using some tips I gleaned off of VistaClues.com, which helped me turn on the duplex through the Vista settings.
So here are more kudos to Bob, for doing the job that HP should have done in the first place.

Bob, thanks so much for the fix to my HP 7410 duplex printing the second page upside-down problem, initiated by Vista and HP Solutions Center Software. I had used this same printer with a Windows XP OS computer and the HP Director Software and had no problems. The problem developed after I bought a new computer with Vista, and then having to install the HP Solutions Center software to get the 7410 to work. I have spent over 30 hours working with HP Tech Support in trying to fix this problem--with no resolution, other than a promise for a higher level technician to call--which never happened. I don't understand why HP Tech Support doesn't read these posts. I found this site in desperation why trying to find out how to contact someone at HP higher than the level I was getting on the tech support contact number. I couldn't believe it when I found the above subject which summarized the problem in 7 words, and with a solution attached.
Your post worked great and resolved the problem immediately. I had to ask for the simplified version of the instructions, so unless readers with this problem have a really sound computer software (to include DOS) background, I would recommend they ask for the simplified instructions to begin with.
I'm not sure how to add KUDOS, but they are certainly deserved and I will add them if I figure how to do so.![]()

Thanks Bob - the patch worked perfectly for my 7210 OfficeJet. I did find the detailed instructions useful, though... I'd suggest that anyone not used to using MS-DOS asks Bob for these with the patch.

Just applied the patch and the duplex works as it should. The back page is not upside down anymore on my Vista laptop. For those that are unfamilliar with MS DOS commands, it may seem intimidating. Just follow the instructions and all will go well. I am disappointed that HP did not offer this patch on their "Support & Drivers" page. I did many, many web searches and could not find a solution until I found this Forum. I find it appauling that this problem affects so may HP printers and HP did nothing. I will be thinking twice before I buy another HP printer.
Anyway, thanks Mr. Headrick!!!![]()
