Yes, the Deskjet 710c driver should be a good match.

Re: Will HP Deskjet driver for 710c printer work for 712c printer in Windows 7?

My very functional  HP Deskjet 712c no longer works after a Windows-7 Professional install.  I used the 710c driver Win7 offered on install, it shows up as functioning properly in device manager, but print jobs are not getting to the printer. What gives...?  712C worked fine under the Vista Home OS.

I understand this is a "dated" piece of equipment, but there's nothing wrong with it and I have several ink cartridges in stock. Is there a solution available that can get this printer back online with Windows-7  ??   Nothing has worked so far.

Are you using a USB-Parallel converter?  Those can be problematic, if so I would start by checking the drivers for the USB-Parallel converter is supported under Windows 7.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your reply.  I do not use a USB-Parallel converter. About 2 years ago I upgraded to a Dell desktop XPS-410, it came with Windows Vista(home)... at that time I had to buy a new cable for the 712C printer to plug into a USB port...never needed a converter.

Does the cable have a USB connector on one end and a parallel connector on the other endIf so this is a converter, it just happens to be built into the cable housingThe Deskjet 712 requires a bidirectional IEEE-1284 compliant cable, it does not directly support a USB connection. To use the printer you will need a USB-parallel converter supported by Windows 7 or you could install an IEEE-1284 parallel port on your computer and use the standard parallel port cable.

Re: Will HP Deskjet driver for 710c printer work for 712c printer in Windows 7?

Hi Bob,  Thank you very much for your assistance, I really appreciate you taking your time to send me your ideas.  Good news is the printer is working again. What I ended up doing is manually installing (updating) the USB Driver that came with Windows 7.  Problem had nothing to do with printer drivers...  My belkin cable is working just fine now.  Life is good again...  :-)

Best Regards,

Rich

Re: Will HP Deskjet driver for 710c printer work for 712c printer in Windows 7?

I think I'm having the same problem. This is the configuration: HP Desket 710c Windows 7 x64 Motherboard GigaByte P55-US3L This mainboard has a parallel port, no USB converter is involved. When I try to use the printer the spooler crashes and no printer works after that until the spooler is restarted. I've tryed a solution I've found somewhere that was to use the "print directly to the printer" option and it don't work. I contacted Microsoft and they told me that they are not responsible for this situation and to contact HP. Best Regards.

Unfortunately there seems to be an issue with the 64 bit driver for Vista and Windows 7 for the Deskjet 710, 720, 810, 820 and 1000 series printers.  I do not know of a workaround.  The bug does not affect 32 bit versions of Vista or Windows 7.

That I figured out in the first 10 minutes I tryed to use the driver, no need for HP to assume it, it's time for HP to correct the driver.

Best Regards.
