My install (as admin) of the latest Windows 7 (64bit) OfficeJet 7310 driver and software suite fails. Things go very smooth, until the very end, after the printer is configured just fine, a print icon shows up etc. In fact, after the abort, I can print just fine, but I never get "HP Solution Center" (iirc, that's what it is called.) I'm told the product didn't install properly.
For what it is worth, the other software in the suite, which starts via their own icon(shortcut) seem to work fine too. To add insult to injury, I can scan using the built in scan tool that came with Win7.
The failure details talk about "timeouts". The failure is at the very end of the install, at the "configure" step, well after the install detected the printer on the lan, found out its IP address, serial number(?) and other items that could only have been obtained from the device itself.
The printer is (wired) LAN attached. After the first 2 tries, I tried again, but this time the whole install time I had my browser connected to the internal web server of the 7310. The 7310 was up and responding to my queries. My XP machine was able to use it to print seconds after the VERY time the install finally gave up. Then the Win7 machine printed, then scanned (via Win7 tool). So the LAN and the printer work just fine.
I've tried this HP OfficeJet Link first, and did obtain the latest Win7 64bit drivers to install. This is a new Win7 install, hard disk formatted at install time. There is no "old stuff" around. I didn't upgrde from XP or Vista.
Older posts about running in Vista compatability mode were ignored in my research, since the above supplies native Win7 drivers. I confirmed that the 32bit and 64bit drivers download the exact same file, so no need to try the 32bit version.
The HP Scan diag tool claims that the driver is bad. The scan tool was another item I was allowed to download when the driver and "software suite" as listed.
Any ideas?
WIth this driver and suite be updated?
Thanks

I suspect the issue is related to your firewall settings. There are a number of ports the driver uses to communicate various things to and from the printer. See the page here, particularly the section in Solution Five regarding configuring the firewall.

The firewall was disabled at the time of the install. I will look at Solution 5 as you suggest however.
I use Norton supplied by Comcast

The page you refer to has a different error message. I am not told that no device was found. I am told that the product didn't install correctly (or text to that effect.)

I purchased a new PC that I had built. The PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
I am also having the same problem trying to get the Solution Center Software to load properly.
I contacted HP's service center and since my HP 8500 is "out of warranty" I was told it will cost me $59.99 to get a "Printer Expert" online to diagnose and fix the problem. Previous to this call I had tried every other choice that I could find on the HP website. I have spent more hours trying to get this to work than I spent setting up a LAN, loading MS Office and transferring all my files from my old PC.
The first call ended with the tech will call me back in an hour........surprise!!! NO CALL BACK.
After reluctantly agreeing to pay the $59.99 out of frustration and aggravation I spent at least 5 hours on the phone loading and reloading and adding software to uninstall and different browser software and the outcome is the same as I got by myself......Solution Center STILL DOES NOT LOAD PROPERLY!!!!!
The last diagnosis was to "format the drive and reload the operating system"!!!!!!
WHAT the ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
This is what I get for $59.99 from the HP PRINTER EXPERT ????
I was also told that I would receive a call back in less than 48 hours.................STILL WAITING!!!!!!
The $59.99 is only good for a 72 hour period of assistance so now I am down to the final hours and waiting for the call back.
Has ANYONE found out how to load Solution Center properly????
I had to clean up all the various softwares and Solution Center that the HP Printer Expert loaded and left on my PC when he too got frustrated and gave up. Now I am apparently out the $59.99 and still cannot use all of the features of the printer I purchased.
Should have put that money towards a different printer that will work with Windows 7 Pro 64.
