Re: Windows 7 64 bits driver for HP LaserJet 1200

Hi Daniel,

Unfortunately, that doesn't solve the issue.

The link you gave was for the HP 1200 drivers page, but none of these work for specific configurations (as many people here have written).

If I plug the HP LJ 1200 directly to my Win7 64-bit machine, it works fine.

However, if I plug the HP LJ 1200 to a WHS v1 or to a WinXP 32-bit machine, I can print correctly from this machine, but I cannot share this printer to my Win7 64-bit machine.

More details:

When I try to "add a printer", it requires drivers, and none of the "Universal Drivers" on the page you linked works.

If I try to install this universal driver software, it asks me which printer to use, I then select the network printer on my WHS machine, and then it searches on Windows update, doesn't find a driver and asks me where to locate the driver!  So we're turning in circles...

Any solution?

Re: Windows 7 64 bits driver for HP LaserJet 1200

Can someone tell me how to get the driver for my old HP Laserjet 1200 printer for Win7 64 bit system?

Nothing on the HP driver site really works. I just have my laptop updated and it is not Win7 64 instead of 32

My HP laserjet worked for years and I like it a lot. Windows update does not have the driver.

Any help is great!

Re: Windows 7 64 bits driver for HP LaserJet 1200

Thank you for the information. I followed the directions and was able to get my Windows 7 64 bit client to print to a shared HP LaserJet 2200D.

Best,

Chris

Good news. There is a solution.

HP Laserjet 1200 or 1300, and possiblly more Laserjet models have the same problem with Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 bit . My desktop is XP (32 bit) with a shared HP Laserjet 1200. I have no problem to share it with my other XP and Vista 32 bit laptops through wireless network at home. But I just purchased a new HP Windows 7 64bit laptop and I could not install the shared printer even through I used the downloaded HP universal printer drivers for Windows 64 bit. I searched the HP support forums and found this link was very helpful.

http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1301542

Now my Windows 7 64 bit is working with the shared HP Laserjet 1200. Here is the solution from the link and I added some more details.

1. Disconnect the printer from the desktop computer on the network. Then, connect the printer directly to the new Window 7 64 bit (or Vista 64 bit) laptop using the USB cable. The laptop loads the correct driver automatically.
2. Print a test page. (This is an important step.)
3. Disconnect the printer from the laptop and reconnect it back to the desktop.
4. Open the list of printers of the new Windows 7 64 bit laptop, find the LaserJet printer. Right click and open "Printer properties" (not the "Properties" at the bottom of list).
5. Find the "ports" tab. Change from the USB port (DOT4_xxx) to the network connection. If you do not know how to change it to network connection, click "Add Port", then click "Local Port". Typed in " \\your_desktop_pc_name\your_shared_printer_name " (This is just an example.). Click OK to save it.
6. Print another test page.

Following the above steps, you will have a shared HP Laserjet 1200 PCL5 printer. To change it to PCL6 printer driver, you will need to use the downloaded HP Universal Drivers for Windows 64 bit. I will not discuss it here.

Thanks to the first person who came out this great idea.

Thank Raptor833 !

Your solution (posted above here for reference of other) did work for me!

Re: Windows 7 64 bits driver for HP LaserJet 1200

The solution below does work with one caveat:  Namely you can't use a 21 pin connecter on the printer OR any 21 pin to USB adapter.  The printer to computer cord MUST be USB on both ends.  Inside the printer just above the 21 pin connecter there is an USB port.   This little detail drove me nuts for 2 days.

Re: Windows 7 64 bits driver for HP LaserJet 1200

One caveat:  Daniel L's solution does work except that you MUST connect to both the printer and computer using an USB connector on both ends.  A 21 pin connector on the printer end will not work nor will a 21 pin to USB adapter.

If you have a 21 pin connector inside the printer, there is an USB connector just above it.

Re: Windows 7 64 bits driver for HP LaserJet 1200

I see other people have had this problem, but I haven´t seen a solution, I have a HP laserjet 1200 plc5 v.5 and it will not install on my new computer that has windows 7 professional (64bits). I downloaded a driver from HP but it would not recognize it. The instructions say it is for Windows 7, but inside it still says xp. This printer is not on my computer, but is on the server, does that have anything to do with it?
