Recently our office got a new Windows 7, 64-bit laptop, and for the past three days I have been unable to get it to print though the network to our HP LaserJet 1320. I can connet it via the USB cable and print directly to the printer, however, I recive an "unalbe to connect" error with all attempts to connect to the printer through the network .
The LaserJet 1320 is conncected to an XP system and shared over the network. Three other XP systems and two Linux systems can connect and print to it just fine. Also the Windows 7 laptop has been able to print to a shared HP DeskJet 6980 and an ancient Lexmark 4039 though the network.
It does not appear to be a network issue. I've tried varous versions of the HP Universal Printing driver, but so far not has been able to connect though the network. Is there one in particualr I should try? Does the Universal printing driver not support network printing?
Thanks! Any help with this probelm will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to bump into your thread but could u answer me something?
Do you have the print quality option FastRes/ProRes 1200 dpi when u directly connect the 1320 printer to Windows 7 laptop or when u print from W7 trough that printserv?

Never mind solved my issue using the specific vista x64 (on windows7) driver rather then using the universal print driver...
Might fix your issue with network shared printer.

_saiko, I have the same problem. Running Windows 7 64 bit trying to connect to a shared Laserjet 1320. The Laserjet 1320 is connected to a XP PC by USB. Had no problems with Windows 7 32 bit. Exactly which driver are you using? Thanks.

I have the exact same problem - I have a laptop with Windows 7 x64 and I have LaserJet 1320 and P2055d printers connected to XP computers that are shared on a network. When I try to add the printers, I use the Add Printer function, choose network printers, click on the printer and it tries to connect. However, it tries to find a driver through Windows Update and then on the network and it fails.
I have tried downloading the UPD 5.0.1 PCL 6 from HP's website, but once I install it and try to print something, the UPD asks me which printer I want to use, and there are none listed, so I click "Find a printer" in the UPD software, but it can't find any. I have tried entering in the IP addresses of the computer each printer is connected to, but to no avail. There is no model-specific driver listed on HP's website for the Laserjet 1320 or the 2055d.
My Windows Firewall is off this entire time as well and I am connected to the network, so I don't know what the issue could be other than driver compatibility.

I have the EXACT SAME problem with an HP 2840. Every attempt to find the printer attached to the XP machine fails, with the message that its going to search for a Windows Update (this may take a while) and no update is found. When I look at My Network from the Windows 7 machine, I can see the XP machine, all the shared files, and the printer - even indicates that it is shared. The HP UPD is unable to see the printer ever.
Please help. This is wildly frustrating, and is really convincing me to never buy another HP printer.

i'm using this driver (vista x64 driver) for laserJet 1320 on windows 7. It has full support for my printer (all specific DPI settings and enhancements) unlike the UPD. It's possible that networked printing issues that you people had aren't present with this classic (dedicated) driver.

I am also having the same problem.
I can connect the printer to the Windows 7 PC and print without a problem, but when I try to access it from the XP machine using Add Printer, the XP machine complains that the driver is not correct.
I can connect the printer to the Windows XP PC and print without a problem, but when I try to access it from the Windows 7 machine using Add Printer, the Win 7 machine cannot find a suitable driver.
I can access my deskjet printer without a problem, it is only the HP 1320 that is giving me a big headache.
HP -- can you help us out here?

Same problem here. We are using an HP laptop with Windows 7 and we are trying to connect to an HP 1320 which is connected to a PC. Both the PC and laptop are on the same network. We can see the HP 1320 on the network. When we try to connect to it, we get the error message stating that a driver cannot be found.
We called HP customer service and they stated that an HP 1320 is a commercial device, and service is not available on the weekend.
This problem seems to go back a couple of months.
Is HP being a little slow on the uptake?
