The Windows 7 Full Feature software for your product is available for download in the link provided below. If you have not tried this already, please try downloading and installing the software from the link and check if the install completes successfully
In case the above fails as well, please try downloading and running the Network Diagnostic Utility from the link given below:
Hope this helps.

My problem was resolved by completing the second portion of the suggestion. The printer had already been installed using a wired connection, USB. When I tried to switch to a wireless connection, it failed. Apparently the software is not smart enough to deal with this scenario automatically. I love HP products, but there are a few things that are nagging problems. This might be one of them. I may be wrong, but I think it is quite common for someone to physically connect a printer first to see if it will work because we have been conditioned by years and years of plug-and-play installations. We know that if we plug something in first it will install itself. The whole wireless thing is new and not trusted yet. It would be nice to have an option somewhere to switch between the two. "I'm just saying.....".
Bottom line, the suggestion fixed the problem. Removing the "print server" for the printer and clicking on the Add Printer icon worked!

I have the same problem. I upgraded from windows vista 64 to windows 7 home 64bit. The printer would not print so I downloaded the full software set for windows 7 64 bit. I installed and it took my old software off and rebooted and installed the new. It found the officejet pro 8500 printer and went through the wireless network setup diagnostic it all passed and then it shows a picture of computer router and printerwith a status bar and when the status bar gets to 100% it says it failed. I have retried with all virus scan and firewalls off including on the router nothing works. Mine was not installed previously by wire. It is all wireless. I then tried your next suggestion with and downloaded the HP Nework Diagnostic Utility and it finds my printer, but when I click it to test connection it comes up with "HP Software required to connect to your printer over network could not be found on this computer. Insert the CD that came with the printer and select install or Add a Device, or visit www.hp.com to download the latest software.
What else can I do? It worked perfectly under Vist 64 except the stupid error message when you shut the computer down which I just had to live with. Now I cannot even print.
