I bought a Toshiba laptop that has windows 7 on it (64 bit). So trying to hook up an HP DeskJet 672c to it, using a Parallel/USB cable, but not having any luck with the driver. The model doesn't show up in the list to pick from, and unable to find a driver download. Has anyone done this? Is there a compatible driver?

I would suggest trying the Deskjet 660c driver available through Windows Update. Go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, select the proper port, then in the list of printers click on the "Windows Update". It will take a few minutes for the list to update, once it does the Deskjet 660c should be available as a choice,.

HP Deskjet 660c doesn't show up as a choice, both in the original list and when I hit windows update. Tried downloading that driver from HP, but doesn't run since .exe that runs is not 32 or 64 bit. Any other drivers you think would work for the 672c?

Thanks, Bob!!
I found the entry you were referring to. Didn't notice the separate listing for HP instead of Hewlett-Packard in the first drop down list. Found the 660c and printing fine now!

DeskJet 672C, Win 7 64-bit Driver Needed
Need driver for my antique DeskJet 672C; has NO driver in Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) (build 7600).
1. Have a HP-Pavilion AY608AAR-ABA HPE-137c (2.50 gigahertz Intel Core2 Quad Q9300)
2. Runs Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) (build 7600).
3. Want to connect my old HP DeskJet 672C to this HPE 137c
4. Bought a GWC AP1305-BG USB to Parallel Cable (Bi-Directional) (Allows any PC equipped with a USB port to print to any parallel printer.)
5. I have three HP Installation Floppies that came with the 672c which I copied to fit my HP BD B DH8E2L ATA Device [CD-ROM drive] and I tried running “setup” of these drivers without success:
A. Hlp3x
B. HPF67D08
C. HPF67H08
D. HPF67R08
E. HPF67T08
F. HPFCFG08
G. HPFLNK08
6. I cannot get this combination to print.
7. There is NO .inf file in my floppies that are 64 bit compatible.
8. HP is of no help since the 672c is obsolete and is no longer supported.
9. Microsoft is of no help as they did not provide a driver in Windows 7 for this old printer.
10. My HP DeskJet 672C prints fine on my P4, Windows XP desktop. The printer is NOT my problem!
11. Tried downloading Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 but couldn't get past "You are not eligible to download Windows XP Mode.
12. Install VMWare or VirtualPC, and create a virtual machine, load Windows 2003 Server on it and create a Deskjet 660C Printer Share, and print to that.
13. The 660C driver did not help
14. I need “Setup & Install” software to couple this HP DeskJet 672C to my new HPE-137c.
15. Can anyone me?

The likely issue here is your USB-Parallel converter. Besides a driver for your print you need a driver for the USB-Parallel cable. For supported cables this is typically included in Windows 7, it may also be provided on a CD or for download from the manufacturer.
If the USB-parallel cable is working properly it should appear in Device Manager without a warning triangle. If this is the case then I would suggest installing the Deskjet 660c driver as follows: go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, select the appropriate port (may be USB001:, USB002: or similar, or might be an emulated port such as LPt3
, then select Windows Update and after the process finishes click on the HP Deskjet 660c.
Alternately you could test the printer driver portion my connecting and sharing the printer from your XP machine. Then on the Windows 7 machine go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then click on Windows Update and then select HP Deskjet 660c. This should allow you to print to the Deskjet 672C shared from the XP machine and would confirm that the Deskjet 660c driver on the Win 7 x64 machine is compatible with your printer. At that point the USB-Parallel cable would be confirmed as the issue.

Bob; Part II - Driver for the HP DeskJet 660C.
Thanks to your guidance, a bit of serendipity and some dumb luck, I got my HP DeskJet 672C to printing on my Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 PC with Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) (build 7600) using your suggestion to load the Driver for the HP DeskJet 660C. Thanks so much for your excellent help.
BTW, The reason that I didn't want to upgrade to a USB printer was that I had stocked up on a gross of print cartridges for the 672C that I wanted to use.

I am glad you got this working. I had marked this to respond after your last post but I somehow got distracted. A gross of cartridges is certainly a good reason to keep the printer working. Be sure to store the unopened cartridges in a cool place to maximize thier shelf life.
