It will work on Windows 7. Just be patient.
Download the HP LaserJet 1000 Host Based Driver. You want to end up with the lj000hb folder on your desktop.
Now, plug your printer in. Let Windows 7 try to install the printer. Do not skip this process. It will search and then stop. At this point close the browser.
You are now almost done. Now, before having a glass of wine, go into Start, Devices and Printers. Find the HP LaserJet 1000 printer. It will have a yellow triangle on it.
Right-click the printer and select Printer Properties. Go the Advanced tab. Select new Driver, and then follow the instructions. Select the browse feature and then select the lj1000hb folder (you will not select the actual file).
The driver will successfully install. Now, you can have that glass of wine.
If you Update Driver button is grayed-out, you are on the wrong page or tab. You have to play around and then find the correct tab, and then you can install the driver.

Went in and after installing the printer I just pushed the "update driver" button and for some reason it worked and now prints perfectly... I did install the previous gentlemans "fix" with the other printer driver so I am not sure if the "update driver" took the information from there. now I print perfectly. Hope that helps

Thanks very much - this worked like a charm! It is great for me and great for the environment - no need to buy something new now.
