hp photosmart 309g--HP update icon

the following shows up on my taskbar. a blue box with a +HP Update. and "would you like HP Update to check for software and drive updates now? " That is it! no yes, no just that message. I click it and it goes nowhere. It stays on my screen. The only way to get rid of it is to shut down and restart.  What is happening?  It seems to be stuck or unfinished or something. Anyway, I can't update with it. I don't know what is or what isn't updated like drivers, software et. I went to the support and update page, but don't know what I already have put in.  Can anyone advise on how to get this HP UPdate icon working?  thankyou

I also have the same problem!  I see the problem was first posted here six months ago. What do we have to do to get an answer or resolution?!?!!

I get rid of it by clicking on it and then hitting ALT-F4 (Kill).

Good Luck, it would be nice it HP fixed this.
