problem with scanner of hp officejet 4500 g510

Hallo everybody. I have a problem. I've bought hp officejet 4500 g510. I installed the device by following the directions. But the scanner doesnt work. It appears an error code 31 in device manager. I unistall/reinstall but nothing. I have vista home premium. What can I do?

Try running the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility from http://www.hp.com/go/tools

I have already run it but there was no result. I have to say that I have the same problem with scanner with my previus hp f360 all-in-one!!!

When you say there was no result what exactly does that mean?  Did the diagnostic properly run but indicate not trorubles were found, or did clicking on the download link simply return with no message or download?  If the latter then use this link instead:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL34826/oj-90927-1/HPSDU.exe 

This is the original link with the ftp:// replaced with an http://.  Some default browser settings block ftp transfers.

The diagnosric tool run ok and indicates problem with device manager. It says some very general things to do like I should unplug and plug the device, or reinstall and install again the software etc. But no solution.
