Hi,
Do you still have the old cartridges? If you do install them and see if you get the same error message or low on ink or ink depleted message. This is just to test if there is something wrong with the after market cartridges.

In addition to Binary_Zen's suggestion, you can also try these out:
This seems to be a very generic issue and may be caused by multiple things.
Basically, there is an interaction issue between the OS and the printer. You may have to uninstall and re install the drivers, or stop and start the spooler or do some steps mentioned in the post above.

The old cartridges stop the problem. Is HP doing something on their end to prevent aftermarket cartridges from working properly?

Hi,
I do not think so. I have seen aftermarket pens work on HP printers. The only thing I could think off is that the cartridges you have and the printer are not communicating properly. It could be the chip on the cartridges so I am wondering if you could either get a new set of the aftermarket cartridges or try the current one on another compatible printer just to see if you will get the same problem.
