Accessing printer software for HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series with Windows 7

There is currently a problem with the HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series software on my computer.  It used to be when I clicked on my desktop icon (or launched this program from my start menu) I would see a list of option such as check ink levels, scan a picture, search for help, and so forth.  Now the screen shows only this:

Clicking on HP Printer Assistant does nothing.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 620 with a Widows 7 Home Premium (64 bit, service pack 1) operating system.

Does anyone know what might be a solution to my problem?

Hi,

 

Please try the following and let me know the results.

 

1.    Go to “C:\Program Files\HP\<Printer Model>\Bin\UDC_Files” folder
2.    Look for “localize_1033.json” file and rename it to “localize_1033.json.old”
3.    Look for “tasks.json” file and rename it to “tasks.json.old”
4.    Go to Driver CD or Install Location (whichever is the latest)
5.    Look for Full_x86.cab or Full_x64.cab (OS Dependent – {64bit OS select Full_x64} {32bit OS select Full_x86 })
6.    Open the CAB File
7.    Look for “UDC_Files_localize_1033” and “UDC_Files_tasks”
8.    Extract the file to “C:\Program Files\HP\<Printer Model>\Bin\UDC_Files”
9.    Rename the “UDC_Files_localize_1033” to “localize_1033.json”
10.    Rename the “UDC_Files_tasks” to “tasks.json”
11.    Go to “C:\ProgramData\HP\<Printer Model>”
12.    Look for “HPUDC” folder and rename it to “HPUDC_1”
13.    Close all Windows
14.    Make sure the printer is Online (Make sure you are able to Open the EWS Page or able to Print and Scan)
15.    Open HP Printer Assistant and check

Funny, I have the exact same issue with my HP5514 printer on Windows 7 Pro.  However, I don't have the same files above.  Step 1 UDC_files is not there.  Suggestions?

Installing the latest full software package from HP should fix the problem of the buttons disappearing. These printers use the same basic software, and what I said is true for both. HP fixed the problem in version 28.8 of the software. I'll link it below for the 5514 and the 3050A.

Thanks, I had reinstalled PS5510d_607 (94MB) but the link you gave shows newer PS5510d_1315 (57MB).  Installed the new one and got a whole new interface for the printer.   This brings up the HP Printer Assistant which I really didn't have before.  However, the Devices and Printers and selecting the HP5514 shows the same as the above jpg.  No issue as the new Printer Assistant gives you everything you need now.  Thanks again.

Spoke a little too soon.  Everything works with the new interface but the button Manage Scan to Computer does nothing.  I verified that I no longer have any 'Scan to Computer' active.  From the from panel it tries to connect to my PC and can not.  However if I manually form the PC activate HP Scan it works just fine.

 

So what happened to 'Scan to Computer'??

Ah... wait.  A little troubleshooting has it working.

 

After installing the new updated full featured software and drivers, I have a new Printer Assistant.  All worked except 'Scan to Computer'.   From my HP5514 it said it could not connect to my computer.  So this is what I did.

 

1.  Power off printer and power on again.

 

Now the printer said that it could not find my PC at all.

 

2.  Rebooted computer.

 

Now went into the new Printer Assistant and viola... the 'Scan to Computer' now popped up and said it was disabled!  I now enabled it and that went just fine.  Went to printer and it said it could not find my PC again.

 

3.  Power cycled printer again.

 

Now the Scan from Computer found my PC and the front panel scans just fine now.

 

Now the Printer Assistant 'Scan to Computer' pop up now works just fine.

I tried installing the new software that Shane_R pointed out.  However, now when I click on my desktop icon (or launch this program from my start menu) my screen shows this:

The scan function has returned.  I can launch that from my start menu.  But I would like to have everything back to normal if possible.

Go into your Uninstall and totally remove everything that has to do with HP printing.  Reboot.  Now go back and try to install with the newest full featured software and drivers from above, or search HP web site.

Oh... You know what?  I just recently realized I was having some other problems with my computer.  Internet Explorer and Skype were acting up as well.  This is what fixed the problem:
