Re: Deskjet 710/720/810/820/100 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and WIndows 7

I'm havingthe same  problem, and I really don't want to give up on my HP722C.  We we bought a new Dell Desktop computer last summer.  It runs Windows 7-64 bit, and it does not have a parallel port.  So my husband bought a  USB-Parallel converter cable, and found a patch to make it print from Windows 7 and we thought everything was fine.  Then I had to change an ink cartridge last night and I found that whenever I try to align the  printer cartridges windows explorer crashes. My problem exactly as daz7 described it below.  Has anyone out there solved this problem, or is my printer just too old for Windows 7, even though it prints fine?

Unfortunately you can't align the cartridges with this patch. If you still have your old computer, use that one to align the cartridges.

Thank you very much for the information!  It's not the answer I was hoping for, but it is better than not having an answer at all.  I'm coming to terms with the reality that the days of my HP 722C are very limited, which is really a shame because it still prints very well, and it's just the right size and shape for my space.  Oh well, nothing much more I can do.  At least now I won't spend any more time trying to make it work with Windows 7 or 8.  I don't think any of our machines running older versions are still working to use them for the alignments, otherwise I'd be happily using them for everything else too.

I bought my 722C back in 1998 still works well, but I have the same problem, and now have Windows 8.1 on my main computer. I do have 2 newer printers, but still prefer the 722c for some printing. It's stingy on ink. The new printers guzzle it. Try printing without the alignment it maybe ok.

Yes, I will print without the alignment for as long as I can, and the 722C doesn't need one very often.  Also my husband just remembered that the oldest functioning computer we have, a Packard Bell from 1996(?) which runs Windows 95 might  be able to do the alignment when we need one.  So we'll check that out some day  before the ink cartridge that I just put in the other day runs out.  Thanks again!

Re: Deskjet 710/720/810/820/1000 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and Windows 7

Has a driver for Windows 8/8.1 been created?

Just to confirm, I can see a print job going into the print que for my HP 720C. The print job disappears immediately.

The print job never prints though.

Is this a symptom that this patch is suppose to take care of?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Deskjet 710/720/810/820/1000 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and Windows 7

cmacd,

I am operating with Windows 8.1 and experienced the same problem connecting to my HP DeskJet 722c.

The workaround that is now working for me is to network with my IBM Computer which has XP Professional and access the 722c via the network.  This has been successful.

I too am still waiting for the patch to use my 722c with my Windows 8.1.

I hope this helps.

DrJohnWhiting,

Thanks for the response. So as I understand your solution, you are doing a simple share of a printer from an XP box.

Is this correct?  I can see if this gives me print capabilities for my Windows 8.1 box.

Don't you still need to have a driver installed on your Windows 8.1 box? And, if so, wouldn't it need to be one without

the issues listed in this forum thread?

Thanks again!

Re: Deskjet 710/720/810/820/1000 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and Windows 7

Keep it simple!

Install the HP 722c on your xp computer.  I installed it using a USB cable.  Share the HP 722c on the network and verify that it appears on your 8.1 computer as a network computer attached to the HP 722c computer.

Right click on the HP 722c icon on your 8.1 computer Printers & Devices.  Open Properties and click on Print a Test Page.

No more is needed if my work-around can be applied to other similar environments.

Re: Deskjet 710/720/810/820/100 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and WIndows 7

I just want to send a huge THANK YOU to all of you who shared this solution.

The patch solved my problem and I can now print from W7 64-bit on my still working HP DeskJet 710 C.

The printer is my second since the first one gave up after a few years. It's good enough for years to come.
