I updated the Firmware in my CLJ2840 all in one and the device is now unresponsive:
Device: HP CLJ 2840
Setup: Network printer
OS: Win 7
Drivers: Standard Win 7 drivers installation
I downloaded the file 2800_Series_FW_Update-20120307.exe from the HP support site.
I followed the installation instructions to the letter.
I waited for the firmware installation to complete in its entirety
I noted the indicated messages on the device LED panel which followed the indicated routine.
I noted the smiley face at the end of the installation process on the computer
Device cycles as follows:
1 Turn on
2 Cycle toner drums as usual
3 LED panel shows brand name in upper portion
4 LED flashes once and 3 LED bars begin to scroll from right to left...
5 ready light and alert light remain ON
6 This continues for about a minute... then cycles from line 3 .... over and over again
The device is no longer visible to the network
Even invisible to the network I was able to rerun the firmware program to successful completion .. a second time.
Our entire office is stuck without this printer.

Hey Rota, the product you have is a commercial printer. These commercial products can be a tad tricky. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support.

Sorry to bother you again but somehow your post became tagged with a "solved" label and unfortunately that could not be further form the truth! I am nearly a month now without a colour printer. I bought an office jet 4680 to tide moe over but the laserjet continues to languish whilst my office curses me for making the update!
Since we dont have a service center within a reasonable distance I am still hoping some or other of the comunities might reply to me, which may not happen whilst they think the problem is solved!
What should I do to revert the status of the inquirt to "Active" or "unsolved"

The post was marked as "Solved" due to the fact that the Laserjet is considered a commercial printer and this is the consumer support board. It helps point other customers with the same printer to the correct location to post their issues.
Have you posted in the commercial board yet?

Indeed I have, and noted there are several other people with the same problem.
I will continue to liaise with them and hopefully some one will come up with a fix soon.
