I have an HP C4585 connected via USB to a PC running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). After installing Windows 7, I installed the latest 64-bit drivers from HP. Installation went fine and a test page was printed. The printer has been selected as the default printer and scanning appears to work perfectly.
When attempting to print anything else, however, nothing happens. I can tweak printer properties &c and programs such as Final Draft 7/Acrobat Reader/Word will show the document being prepared for printing but nothing at all appears in the print queue.
FWIW, after a print instruction, I can hear the usual pre-printing noises from the machine of the print head moving &c ... but nothing after that.
Any help much appreciated!

Did you ever get an answer for this? I am having the same problem with my C6180. I successfully printed a test page and can scan, but the printer is idle and won't print from any programs.

No, I never did. Eventually I managed to get things working after a series of complete reinstallations of WIn7. I avoided downloading the drivers &c from HP and let WIn7 do its stuff on its own. Eventually it worked.
One tip that might make life easier is - initially at least - to avoid manually designating the printer as the default printer. No idea why it makes a difference but it did work for me.
