when you say that you tried re-installing solution center....could you tell me how and did you un-install first if so how did you uninstall?

Simply from windows programmes and features. I only removed Solution Center and I didn't use HP scrubber if such still exists for W8

I would unistall the printer too....and if there is more than one uninstall both then restart and re-install the full software and let me know if this fixes it.....I am concerned that the print management tool is not working for you I have not seen that before.

I might add when you gto to uninstall the printer from programs and features it will ask you if you want to uninstall everything associated with this device  choose yes.  this should give you a clean uninstall then we can reinstall and it should fix it

Solved with clean re-install thanks. Not sure why Print Management doesn't work though.
