When I first purchased my mac (first time mac user, Mac OX 10.5.8), I was able to scan/print/fax using my Color LaserJet 2840.
I moved homes and my husband set-up our printer again. We have been using the printer for printing only.
I wanted to use the scan function again, but when I opened HP Director, I could not even see my device listed. So since then, I have tried to reinstall the disc many times. Everytime I do, I come to the Setup Assistant, and when it asks me to create my network (since our printer is networked so I can print), I always get the error message "Device is Unreachable" and then get the error message: The network address you entered is invalid or your device is unsupported or is unavailable. Please correct the problem and try again.
What am I doing wrong? I have no problems printing to my networked printer but I cannot even install the HP director program to start using the scanner functions. How do I "add a device" when the only options are to "remove a device"? Please help....this is driving me crazy. I'm a new mac user and i love my printer for all the functions. I just can't for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Thanks for the post. Since this is scanning related, I would like to recommend starting with this document first. If that does not resolve the issue, I might also recommend posting this question on either of the first to links below, this will get you to a specific group of expertise a lot quicker. Good Luck!
