Photosmart 1215 with Windows 7 64-bit - Windows Update not helping

I have read other posts on how to install a driver for Photosmart 1215 using Windows Update.  Its not working for me.  990c is not showing up as an alternative driver.  If try just plugging in the printer and allowing Windows Update to find one that works, it cannot.  The photosmart 1215 is showing up as an icon in Devices and Printers but is in the "unknown" section.  So its attached ... just not as a printer.

Apologies.  It does work.  Read the instructions ... carefully ...

Re: Photosmart 1215 with Windows 7 64-bit - Windows Update not helping

Im trying to install my HP photosmart 1215 printer on a new windows 7 computer. Im running windows 7 professional - 64 bit os. i7 Quad 950 processor and 6 GB memory. Forums I've been on say I should use Deskjet 990c as an alternate driver. I loaded the driver and it shows up in the printers list. When I try to configure the driver on the ports tab (default LPT1) does not offer USB or Dot4 as an option. All that show up are LTP1 thru LPT3 and COM1 thru COM4. Any solutions?

Thanks

Paul

Re: Photosmart 1215 with Windows 7 64-bit - Windows Update not helping

I am using Windows 7 64 bit with SP1 RC. I am using the USB connection of the Photosmart 1215. Add Printer, click on Windows Update and wait for the new driver list to load (takes a couple/3 minutes. I used the HP Photosmart 7200 driver and it works great. I used the Dot 4 setting for the port. Also I renamed the printer from 7200 to 1215, as you see below. Hope this helps someone.
