Are you trying to install using the Vista/XP CD that came with the unit. Here is the link for full software solution for Windows 7

I see that you are unable to install the HP OJ Pro 8500 Series printer on your Win 7 machine.
Please check on the CD that you have received with the printer, to know the drivers that are available on that disc. If it is for Win XP / Win Vista or Win 7
If it does not have the drivers for Win 7, Click on the correct link below and choose the option for Win 7 32 Bit or Win 7 64 Bit and download the correct drivers for the installation of the printer.
Note: You can find the model of the printer by opening the front cover where you access the ink tanks of the printer and look on the right side of a sticker which displays the information

The CD that comes with the printer is for Windows vista and XP. It will not work with Windows 7. You need to download the Windows 7 version from the HP website. Select the appropropriate OS version (32-bit or 64-bit) though the file works with both. Try this URL: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloa
I would also recommend that you order the CDROM for backup as well.
P.S. I am currently working with a customer who has experienced the same problem which is why I am very familiar with it.

I recently installed a new hd with xp on my Dell gx270 desktop. When I try to run the software that came with the HP J4680 printer, I get a message that sayes 'your system does not support this printer". I worked fine on the old hd, what am I doing wrong?
