2nd laptop to wireless printer C7180. Print works, COPY & SCAN do not

Adding 2nd computer to wireless network printer C7180 all-in-one.  PRINT functions, but COPY and SCAN do not from either computer or from printer's control panel.

2nd computer is not listed on the printer's control panel.

Uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times.

1st computer OS = Windows 7.  2nd computer OS is XP.

Re: 2nd laptop to wireless printer C7180. Print works, COPY & SCAN do not

If the printer is plugged into one PC with a USB cable and you are trying to use Windows Print Sharing, that is all you will get - print sharing.

Since this is a network printer, why not connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable (preferred) or if that is not convenient, with a wireless connection?  That way all PCs can use all of the printer's functions.

Let me know which way you would like to connect the printer and to what router and I can help.

Re: 2nd laptop to wireless printer C7180. Print works, COPY & SCAN do not

Let me first correct one statement - COPY is functional - only SCAN is nonfunctional with the second laptop.

Connections are wireless with a Cisco Linksys E1200 router.  I have worked my way through all the troubleshooting available hp website.  I think the problem is with a firewall.  I have an email out to my work IT guru, but he has not responded yet.  I am not familiar with this laptop well enough to even know what firewall.

Do you think you still might be able to help?

Re: 2nd laptop to wireless printer C7180. Print works, COPY & SCAN do not

Yes and no.  If you the printer is plugged into one PC with a USB cable and you are sharing it with another PC, it will only share the print function of the printer, the non-host PC will NEVER be able to scan from it.

What are your thoughts about connecting the printer to your router instead of USB to one PC?

Re: 2nd laptop to wireless printer C7180. Print works, COPY & SCAN do not

OK, so the printer IS connected directly to your router.  If this is the case, Download and run this utility: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-104282-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...

What does it say?

Re: 2nd laptop to wireless printer C7180. Print works, COPY & SCAN do not

"Product not installled.  Install Software"  - NOT TRUE,  it has been installed, uninstalled, & installed several times.  The printer has an IP address on this computer and it will print, but it will not scan.

OK, uninstall the HP software again (using the uninstaller in the HP folder).

IMPORTANT: - Restart your PC.

Download and install this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-76229-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
