7410 ip address setting

I've used my 7410 with a wireless ethernet connection for years, but now I find that its IP address has reverted to 0.0.0.0

I enter Settings, #8, #3, #2 and choose manual.  The screen is called Manual IP Settings, and has three choices, for IP number,

subnet mask, and gateway.  I can set each one of those readily.  But no matter what I then press to get a different screen, the

settings I just entered go away.

How do I preserve them?

Re: 7410 ip address setting

Do you want a wireless or ethernet (wired) connection?

If wireless, run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the front panel of the printer.  Only after you are connected to the network can you set Manual IP Settings.

If wired, simply plug in the Ethernet cable (or change it if it no longer works - it could be damaged).

Re: 7410 ip address setting

Aha -- I now discovered that my wireless access router gave up the ghost.   I installed another one, and the printer sees

the network.  But it fails to connect to it.  (But how could it, with no IP hnumber?)

Re: 7410 ip address setting

Don't worry about a static IP address quite yet.  Use the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer after you have your new router set up with SSID and password.

By the way, use WPA as your encryption type, WEP is virtually worthless.

Re: 7410 ip address setting

I'd forgotten that the Wireless Access Point I was using was configured to only allow specified MAC addresses to connect.

Once I added the HP's MAC address, all went well thereafter.

Thanks much for your prompt concise help!

Re: 7410 ip address setting

MAC addressing is not any kind of security measure.  You are wasting a lot of energy with it.
