8500A now receives print job but does not print

After eight months of working fine, the HP 8500A 910 now frequently receives a print job but just shows a message on the printer's display, "now printing" ... but never prints.  If I shut the printer down and restart it, I can get 1-2 print jobs through before it recurs.

This is a networked printer on a wireless net with four laptops and desktops.  No PC is direct-connected to it.  This is a business and we very badly need this to be fixed.  Can someone communicate with me on this?

I have exactly the same problem! It's just showing "Now printing" and doesn't respond...  After restart it works for 1-2 tasks and then hangs again.

Precisely the problem.  Now if only someone will respond before I go out this afternoon and replace my printer with a Lexmark ...

Is there any support from HP or it's just normal for HP?

It's still warrantied, so I had two chats with Support but neither has completely made the problem go away.  I fear it is systemic in this printer and I may need to go Lexmark.

I have exactly the same problem.   After restarting, the HP Officejet Pro 8500A A910 prints fine, but after 30 minutes or so, new print jobs are sent to the printer, it displays "now printing", and ... nothing.

Product model # CM755A.  I printed the self-test diagnostic page, then checked the website, and the installed firmware is the latest available version:  LRP1FN1126AR

The self-diagnostic page shows that a recently replaced yellow ink cartridge (refill from Cartridge World) was not recognized.  

When printing from an iPhone 4 via AirPrint, I get a message on the iPhone that the printer is out of ink, but the printer display just shows "Now printing..." and a red X next to the display.  In this state when printing from a Windows PC, I get a message "user intervention required" but an "out of ink" message never appears on the printer's display.  

I think another firmware update is required to put a proper "ink error" message on the printer's display...

Ultimately HP is replacing the whole printer under warranty.  I don't find this a very satisfactory solution, but at least it restarts the warranty.  They couldn't fix it after five hours of technician chat.

I too have this issue with my HP8500a Plus.

I have managed to narrow down the issue to one of the cartridges. Whenever this cartridge is inside the printer, the issue will happen. If it's not, then the issue disappears!

I have tested this discovery on TWO different hp8500a printers, and they both react to this "special" cartridge the same way: its presence inside the cartridge tray triggers the issue.

There is only one thing that makes this cartridge any different form the other ones: even though it IS a genuine HP cartridge, it has been refilled and the max allowed page count has been hit. The issue started happening only after the max allowed page count has been hit.

I would ask all who have commented here if they are using other than "new HP cartridges".  There may be a theme here.  Unfortunately, the tune has not been conveyed to Technical Support.
