hi
i've purchased this to have a wireless printer but i can only print via the USB port, which isnt much use! i've tried turning off all firewalls but still no luck. My wireless router works fine all round the house but i cannot get the printer to talk to my laptop. It also 'fails' the print test at the last stage!
Can anyone help as i dont know what else to try....?

I've same problem.
I install everything by book, get my wireless status printed on paper but it won't work.
On paper, everything is OK, but on forward setup it tell's there's an error "adresses of computer and machine don't mach".
So, if I understand this correctly, I have to type IP adress of printer somewhere. But where?
Please help!

You did not mention what you tried to do. Did you just set up the usb and after confirming it prints, removed the usb and tried to print? Then if that is the case you need to create another printer icon for the wireless connection.
Remove the usb from the printer. Insert the cd that came with the printer. Click add a device. then choose connect to network. It will search for the printer and will say no printers found. Click next instead. It will ask you to plug in the usb temporarily. Then will locate your network. Connect to it and then type in the necessary info if prompted. Then it will search for the printer once its on the network. Continue with the installation until you are prompted to disconnect the usb. You have will have 2 printer icons afterwards. One for the usb the other for the wireless network. You can check it when you go to printers and faxes from control panel- in case you have Win XP

I don't know any more, what to do.
I was searching for answers last night and found nothing new.
So, I'm uninstalling printer from my comp, erasing every bit of printer driver and software.
So, I'll install everything by the book, again. If it'll won't work, back to the box and to the store where I bought it.
I forgott to mention my hardware; my route's Asus WL-500G Premium and my laptop's HP nx6325.

Hi
can anyone help as i'm at the stage where this is going back to the shop!
i have a laptop, a wireless router and a C4580. I've tried everything! I'm now getting another message saying 'cannot access installation package'! honestly, its quicker to go to my printer, plug in the USB and print! I'm sure there are cheaper printers on the market that can do this as so far this is a waste of money.
can anyone suggest from the beginning what i need to do?
an extremely frustrated user!

Your C4580 has auto-IP address of 169.254.190.41. This IP address needs to start with 192.168.4.x.
There are a couple of causes for this:
- Is the router's DHCP server turned on?
- Are you using MAC-filtering?
- Did you enter the correct encryption key when setting up the pirinter.

Here's HP's official statement on this:
“The Hewlett-Packard company is aware of the issue that occurs on the Photosmart C4500 series and Photosmart C4400 series. We are currently investigating a potential fix and update to address this issue.”
Unofficially, I've been testing the firmware patch on my C4599 (same printer as the C4580) and it seems to have solved the sleep problem. I know they are still testing the patch. Unfortunately, I don't know when they plan to release the patch.
