C4385 Printer - Netgear DGN2000 - wireless setup

I have DSL, a Netgear DGN2000 (wireless N, combination modem and router), Gateway Desktop, Dell Laptop (with wireless N), Windows Vista x64 on the Gateway.  Recently changed from a separate modem and router when old router died.  In the process, changed the name of the SSID to a new one along with a new WPA(2) password.  Cannot get the HP C4385 printer installed as a wireless printer on the network.  No matter what I try, I get the error:  "Error while saving the settings to the device".  I've re-installed software several times.  Turned off and shut-down everything.  I added the printer as a USB connected device (no problem) and then started the software again to change the settings.  All to no avail.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Reset the printer by turning it off, unplugging power from the rear of the printer, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on.

Is there an option for Reset Network Defaults on the front of the printer?

Re: C4385 Printer - Netgear DGN2000 - wireless setup

Thanks.  I appreciate your taking the time to answer my issue.  I tried both ideas yesterday and again, today.  still to no avail.  Interesting that if I select the current SSID and the old password, the software proceeds to the next step trying to find the printer wirelessly - but can't find it.  When I use the current SSID and currect password, the software message is immediate:  Error while saving the settings to the device.

Thanks for trying!

Re: C4385 Printer - Netgear DGN2000 - wireless setup

Sometimes DSL providers have more control over the router than the printer likes.

- Unplug the telephone line from the router
- Turn the power off on the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
- Go through the normal process of connecting the printer to the router.
- Now find the IP address of the printer (it should be on the self-test printout), type it into a browser.
- On that screen you will find a Networking Tab, then on the left Wireless, then the IPv4 Tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know, use the current IP address.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Leave the gateway and DNS blank
- Finally, plug in the phone line, reboot the router and test.

Re: C4385 Printer - Netgear DGN2000 - wireless setup

Had the same problem with a PSC 2510xi.  Kept getting "error while saving the settings to the device".  Tried your suggested fix of changing the IP Address to something outside the range of the router and it worked beautifully.  Thank you so much ... have spent two days on the problem and am so glad to have found the solution.
