Hi,
I have quite an odd problem which has been driving me quite crazy.
Bought a C4580 a few days ago. Started installation as described configuring the printer to the network (it gets an IP and you can browse to its ip via the wireless). The firewalls are turned off during install just to make sure it doesn't interfere.
Problem starts when trying to add the printer as a networked printer... it finds the printer, I can select it and then proceed to the next step. It's this "next step" which fails at somewhere between 65% and 89%, making the installpage throw a "installation failed" (could not find the printer..).
I've tried installing the printer software on 3 different computers (all running XP) with the same error - finds/lists the printer, and then on the next step after getting to around 65-89% it fails.
One pc hangs when it is searching the device for "TULIP-something" ("something" since I don't remember it right now)
I think it might have something to do when the install program tries to detect the imagaging capabilities of the device. (can see error in the event log regarding "windows image aquisition" or similar).
I can add it manually as a "local printer" (printing through TCP port which the install program "leaves" afterwards), but that feels unecessary as the install program should take care of all this. Besides, I want to be able to use the imaging capabilities and not only printing.
Are there any ideas why the install program fails when the printer is connected and configured and the initial discovery discovers the printer, but when the installprogram wants to check the printers config/capabilities (probably) it fails.
Router is netgear wnr834

Did you try the basic driver set from here?
Also, besides disabling the firewall, you might try turning off any anti-virus programs that you might have running.
