Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

If the problem you're seeing is that the C4580 locks up, then this is a known issue.  Here is an official HP statement on the issue:

“The Hewlett-Packard company is aware of the issue that occurs on the Photosmart C4500 series and Photosmart C4400 series. We are currently investigating a potential fix and update to address this issue.”

Unofficially, I was given the firmware printer patch to test on my home units and it seems to work in fixing the sleep problem.  Unfortunately, I don't know when HP plans to release the fix as it still needs to go through formal testing.

I apologize if you were not given the straight answer on this.

Was this your primary complaint with the printer?

"I apologize if you were not given the straight answer on this.

My primary complaint, Jim, was the runaround I got trying to get this fixed.  I have spent over 4 months waiting for them to get this issue fixed, and to be very blunt about it,  my patience has not been rewarded.  I have gotten the wierdest solutions to the problem, told that the problem is in my computer, etc.

The bottom line is, I have spent more than enough time and effort trying to get this thing running.   I want a replacement or a refund.  Period.

To me, releasing a product that does not work is false advertising, and maybe I need to contact the Federal Trade Commission for some assistance.   I guess HP no longer needs my business.

Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

I apologize for the runaround you've been getting from our support organization. It seems to be a trend here and there's no excuse and quite embarrassing.

I'm going to deal with this on my end the best I can. I appreciate your note here since I can show others what's going on and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to help more.

Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

The Hewlett-Packard company has released a firmware update for the issue that occurs on the Photosmart C4500 series and Photosmart C4400 series. The updates are currently available for use on the Windows OS.

The following links can be used to find the software for the two affected products.

Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

OK, the patch has been installed, now we'll see if it works.  This is the last chance to get this resolved, I think I have been more than patient.

Any idea if there will be a mac version?  I have a laptop I use running Tiger.

Thanks

Paul

The patch a firmware patch for the printer, and it can only be applied using a Windows computer. Once the printer firmware is updated, it should work fine with both Windows and Macs.

Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

OK, I bought one of these the other week, installed it last weekend and all was fine. After it sitting for a few days switched on but not being used I switched it off. I then tried to use it on Saturday and my computer couldn't see it on the network. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, but it still couldn't see it. I printed out the Network Configuration page which claims the printer is connected to my network. I have pinged the IP address and there is no problem, but I still can't print.

I just downloaded the update, ran it and got a message to say that no HP device matching the update was found!

There may be another printer going back....

Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

Since you can ping the printer, can you also access the printer's internal web-page by browsing to its IP address?  If you can, then we know that the connection between the printer and your computer is working. BTW -- what type of computer are you running and how is it connected to your network (wired or wirelessly)?

Also, what type of wireless-router are you using?

The most likely cause for an installation to fail after is was initially working is due to the printer's IP address changing since you installed the SW.  Another common cause is if your security SW (firewall and antivirus) was updated after you installed the printer SW.

What type of security SW are you running (Norton, McAfee, Zonealarm, Windows, etc) and do you remember if you upgraded the firewall or antivirus program since you installed the printer SW?

Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

My C4580 wireless connection was set up thanks to the support folks and I believe I updated with the recent patch.  I can print wirelessly from my desktop and laptop pc's BUT the printer goes into an inactive state periodically and it shows as offline.  I typically unplug it and it starts working.  Should my printer go offline after extended use, and why does the screen go grey and not respond to any buttons

Re: C4580 - not wireless!!!!!!!!!

Your C4599 is not acting normally and I suspect your printer has not been updated with the firmware patch here:
