C4580 only 1/2 wireless

I have a really frustrating problem where i cannot print from my laptop if i do not have the ethernet wire plugged in. Installation was very troublesome so I put the ethernet wire in and it worked. I kept getting no configured printers were found even though i had setup the printer with my computer. So clicked next to configure it and it configured it again. Then it come to the network diagnostic page. This is where it gets very annoying. A bunch of IP addresses come up as it says it is checking them but it fails 100% of the time.... if i do not have the ethernet cable plugged in. It works fine over usb aswell.
I have tried resetting the printer, installing all updates, power cycling etc but still no luck.
