Can I restrict user access to a networked printer?

I have a HP LaserJet CP1525nw.  I just set it up on the wireless network where I work, but I did not intend to share the printer with the entire company.  Now I have guys on the next floor printing  on my printer.  Can I restrict the set of users that are able to send jobs to this printer?

Please use plain text.

Re: Can I restrict user access to a networked printer?

Is the printer on your network (wired or wirelessly)?  Do others have access to the network (wired or wirelessly)?

It is on the network.  Wireless network.  Others are on the wireless network. They are sending print jobs to my printer. :smileysad:

Re: Can I restrict user access to a networked printer?

I am afraid that there is not an a way to control who can print in this setup.

I'm not certain what the needs of the users you do not want printing are, but you could try using the guest network of the router (most router's have one).

Using this approach, the real network would have who you want allowed printing and the printer on that network.  The guest network would be enabled and this is where the users you do not want to print would go and they would have basic functionality such as Internet access.

A guest network is a separate network from the real network and the two cannot communicate with each other by default and this would prevent users on the Guest network from printing to the real network.  You may need to contact the router manufacturer to find out if this is an option for you or not.
