I have an HP PSC 1315 connected to a Windows XP (32 bit) machine. This printer is shared. I can access it from other XP machines on my home network. I cannot access it from my Windows 7 (64 bit) machine. I can see the printer is shared on the machine, but when I double click on it, I get the following error:
"Windows can't find a driver for hp spc 1310 series on the network. To locate one manually, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and consult your network administrator or the printer manufacturer's website."
So I tried downloading the Windows 7 (64 bit) driver from HP and installed it on my Windows 7 machine:
At the end of the install, it asks to connect the printer to the computer through USB. Since I'm not physically connecting the printer to the Windows 7 machine, I check the box that says I can't connect to it right now and proceed to finish.
I then tried to connect to the printer and I get the same error. I try locating a driver manually. I point to c:\windows\inf\ with no success (I'm *assuming* the driver info would get installed there, though I don't know what the .inf name is). Windows says it can't find a suitable driver. Possibly I should be looking for it elsewhere?
I found some troubleshooting utility on HP's website, but it doesn't give "shared printer over a network" as one of the connection schemes to troubleshoot.
I'm kinda stumped on this one. Hoping it's going to be something simple I missed.
Thanks!

Here is a nice explanation of how to share a printer from an XP PC to a Windows 7 PC on a home network. This should work since the Windows 7 (64-bit) PC can see the Windows XP 32-bit partition. What you missed was the type of port to use for the networking connection.
Best regards,
erico

I have the exact same problem as the OP. However in my case the machine which the printer is connected to is Vista not XP (although I don't think that makes a difference). I downloaded and installed the windows 7 driver as the OP did. I followed the instructions in the article linked to. That article describes two options for the printer driver:
1. Choose the printer from the list
2. or click Have Disk
Well my HP PSC 1315 is not on the list so that seems to leave option 2. When I click "Have disk" I need to select an .inf file however, like the OP I have no idea where this is. It's not clear to me how the OP was able to solve his/her problem based on the information in this thread. What am I missing?

"...It's not clear to me how the OP was able to solve his/her problem based on the information in this thread. What am I missing?"
What ended up allowing me to solve my problem is that when I followed the instruction and link provided by Erico, in step 7 the printer was in the list for me. I don't remember, I may have had to click the Windows Update button to update the printer list. Again, I don't remember all the fine details as that was quite a while ago, but if you see a PSC1310 Series printer in the list, that should work.
Sorry, I can't personally offer anything more to assist you.

Ah that was the ticket. I clicked the "Windows Update" button on the screen where you choose the printer brand and model. Took a moment to update and then HP PSC 1310 was in the list. Thanks!
