HP Officejet 8500A
Windows 7 64 bit
I can't seem to activate "scan to computer". My printer says there is no computer detected. It was working fine but then we installed internet security (Safe Eyes) and I can't get it to scan properly so not sure if that's part of the problem. It prints, scans normal, etc. just find but I can't get it to scan to computer so I can use the OCR. I printed a network test report and all systems are go. I established a static IP address as well and that didn't help. It seems as though it's on the network but it just won't activate the scan to computer. It get's stuck at 5% and it told me to restart the printer, no luck. I turned off the router, printer, computer and then restarted router and printer and computer in that order and it didn't work..........help?! Thanks.

This sounds like a network security or firewall issue. I'd like you to temporarily disable your "Safe Eyes" security program and try activating scan to computer again. Security programs usually have a disable option if you right click on the icon in the system tray. It may be located under network, settings, advanced settings or firewall. You may need to contact Safe Eyes for assistance with disabling this feature temporarily. Please let us know if this resolved the problem so we can let you know whats possible steps to take next, thanks!

Disabling safe eyes does not fix this problem. You have to actually un-install safe eyes....
I found this out the hard way. After 4 hours on the phone with HP trying all different things, on two different computers....we gave up....
Both computers already have safe eyes installed. Both running Windows XP Service Pack 3. When you try and install the printer and configure for wireless, the program craps out and gives you an error message. We tried multiple things to no avail. I asked the rep, hey could this be Norton or Safe Eyes? I don't think so. So, this was referred to a Network SME. And I gave up.
Recently, I decided to give it a shot again. I un-installed Safe Eyes completely. No problem. Wireless printer softer installs, does not crap out, and I can print wireless!
Ok, so now I want to re-install safe eyes. After re-installing, wireless printing is broken. My theory is there is a incompatibility or conflict with one of the drivers. The dll that is mentioned is the icf.dll driver.
So, who is going to fix this? I've been using safe eyes for 7 years and don't feel like un-installing just to wireless print. However, the whole reason I bought this printer was for it's wireless capability! Help HP!

I had the same problem. For me, all I had to do was go into the admin SafeEyes account and add allowance for the printer's IP address. I'm not sure if that's the same things as a "static ip address," but after I did that I didn't have any problems.
