Cant get Airprint to work

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have just bought a Deskjet 3050A J611a printer. I have set it up with no problems on my computer.

However, when I try to use either my iPhone or iPad to print (both running iOS 5.0.1), they say no Airprint printers. I have tried restarting my printer and I assume they are on the same network as there is no other wireless network in the house.

What have I missed?

Thanks,

Re: Cant get Airplay to work

On the front of the printer, enable Web Services.  You will know it is enabled when it prints a page describing its e-services.

If that has already been done, restart your router by pulling its power cable momentarily.

Both of those are done, my devices still show no Airprint devices available.

Re: Cant get Airplay to work

OK, make sure both your iOS device and the printer are on the SAME network.

What router are you using?

Re: Cant get Airplay to work

My router is a Huawei EchoLife HG532.

I assigned the printer a static IP at 192.168.1.254 and it is definitely connected to TALKTALK-165538 as are my iOS devices.

I intended to use the static IP to perhaps open some ports or allow it somehow on my router but I am unsure what ports to use.

Re: Cant get Airplay to work

OK, enter the printer's IP into a web browser to reveal the printer's webpage.  Go to the Network tab and find the area to enter the DNS server manually.  Use Google DNS for the printer: 8.8.8.8 for the first entry and 8.8.4.4 for the second.  Click Apply and retry.

I suspect your router is doing something strange, here.  Is it supplied by your ISP?

Re: Cant get Airplay to work

Have done that, still no luck.

And yes it was supplied by my ISP, is there anything I can do in the router settings?

Thank you for your help so far.

Re: Cant get Airplay to work

Well, you could change your encryption from WEP to WPA if it is currently WEP.  Also, you could change the router's channel to 11.

Re: Cant get Airplay to work

Channel 11 worked :smileyhappy: I left the encryption on WPA2-PSK.

Thank you so much.
