Connect B110a to laptop without a router

Just bought this printer and didn't realise that I needed a router.  It seems that it is possible to connect without one but I need simple step by step instructions!!!  I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7.  Help please

In the Control Panel, double-click Network and Sharing Center..
In the Network and Sharing Center (under Tasks on the left), select Manage wireless networks.
Select Add.

Select Create an ad hoc network.

Enter details, including Network name. (your choice) [this is the SSID for your ad hoc connection]
Security type, (WPA2-personal)

Security key. (your choice)

Check Save this network.

(Make a note of the SSID and the Security key for future reference)

Click Next
Continue to follow the prompts to complete setup of the ad hoc network connection.

Did you insert the installation CD that came with the product and install the software?

Connect to the ad hoc network profile you created on your laptop.

Change the Secuity type to WEP from WPA2.
