Connecting 2 HP printers via Ethernet?

Hi, new to the forum. Noticed the "Expert Day" badge on the HP site and figured this would be a good place to ask.Trying to give as much detail as possible; apologies in advance if post appears long :smileyhappy:

I am wondering if anyone can provide a walkthrough on how to connect 2 HP printers to an HP Desktop computer via Ethernet with a router/modem setup installed. Printer #1 is a Deskjet 6988; Printer #2 is a Photosmart c309a; PC is a Pavilion p6623w recently purchased at Wal-Mart and upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to W7 Ultimate. I believe this is one of the newer "Slimline" PCs with a minimum of available ports, and for space concerns (the entire setup is in a bedroom, with most of the devices and peripherals on top of a bureau), I really can't hook up a USB hub with more wires (and nowhere to put the hub) and connect everything that way. Also, there are other computers in the house: two laptops, Pavilion dm1z and Pavilion dv6-3227cl, respectively, and both also with W7 (dm1z = W7 Professional; dv6 = Home Premium), on which I'd like to use shared printing (but the "Homegroup" feature has met with mixed results). DSL modem is a Westell 6100 from Verizon hooked up to a Linksys router #WRT320N. I consider myself moderately / intermediate-level "tech savvy" and can pretty much understand how to perform a maintenance / installation routine once I get the steps in a detailed 1-2-3 format (preferably with pictures and other visuals!) Some specific questions I have, as well as further details about the computer setup, are listed below. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Questions:

1) Physical setup is sort of a "Frankenwerk" configuration, with wires used from devices no longer in-house (but apparently standard as far as Ethernet/USB/AC adapters go). Am a little confused, however, of what is needed to complete the hookup: Have 1 yellow Ethernet cord plugged into the Linksys router's Ethernet port and to the Ethernet port on the modem. There is also a blue wire running from port #1 of the Linksys router to the Ethernet port on the Desktop. Will I need to purchase other cables to hook up the 6988 and c309a, and ultimately, where should I plug each one?

2) Seems every time I try to attempt a setup (and supposedly succeed), I later get error messages in MS Device Manager about a "WPD FileSystem Volume Driver," specifically "This device cannot start (Code 10)." What is the WPD Driver and how does it relate to the printer (not exactly sure which one), and how can I avoid these errors in the future?

Re: Connecting 2 HP printers via Ethernet?

hello

i guess Photosmart c309a has wireless connectivity & Linksys (Cisco) WR320N is a wireless router. you can connect this printer Wirelessly.

get two RJ45 (Cat5 or cat6) cable from shop.

Plug one end of cable into Printers ethernet port & other into Linksys Ethernet port.

For Photosmart c309a Download & start Installing This

Follow the Instructions do not connect it via USB, when asked select wired (Ethernet) connectivity.

For Deskjet 6988in "Devices and Printers"

Add a printer >> Add a network printer >> Select printer to Install

Re: Connecting 2 HP printers via Ethernet?

Thank you! As a confirmation (before I head out to the store) is something like this what I'll need?

Staples - CAT5e 7' (Black)

Staples - CAT5e 7' (Red)

Also, just a little further clarification about where to hook it up. On the back of the router are ports labeled 1-2-3-4 (Internet/PC is running through no. 1, which leaves nos. 2, 3, and 4 available). I'm assuming one of these is where to hook up each respective printer, but just want to make sure. In other words, would I plug one end of the cord into the printer, and the other into 2, 3, or 4 on the back of the router?

Thanks again! :smileyhappy:

Re: Connecting 2 HP printers via Ethernet?

yes thats correct... Plug in- in any port randomly 2 to 4 does not matter it should be serial.
