DeskJet F4280: Shared network printer only prints test page

I have a DeskJet F4280 printer connected to a desktop computer and shared over a home network. Three laptops are connected to the wireless network, and the printer was added the same way to each one ("Connect to...", installed driver from CD, add printer via wizard). Laptop1 prints fine. Laptop2 and Laptop3 successfully print a test page but nothing else from any program.

Desktop: Vista Home Premium x64
- Network Connection: ethernet
- Printer Connection: usb
- Printer Sharing: on
- Password Protected Sharing: off
- Prints? Yes

Laptop1: Vista Home Premium x32
- Network Connection: wireless
- Printer Connection: network
- Prints? Yes

Laptop2: Vista Home Premium x64
- Network Connection: wireless
- Printer Connection: network
- Prints? NO (only test page)

Laptop3: XP Pro
- Network Connection: wireless
- Printer Connection: network
- Prints? NO (only test page)

Any ideas on how to get Laptop2 and Laptop3 printing?

Re: DeskJet F4280: Shared network printer only prints test page

Hi,

Try to install alternate drivers in the  each computer which are not priting.

Click on Windows(start) >> Control panel >> Hardware and sounds >> Printer folder
Click on Add new printer, then a add printer wizard pops up. Click on Next and select Local Printer. Select  USB from the list.
Select HP from the manufacturer and HP Deskjet 990C from the models list and complete the  wizard.
Select as Default Printer. Print a self test page, if prompted.

It may help us

With Regards,

Re: DeskJet F4280: Shared network printer only prints test page

I have the same problem; however, the fix suggested does not work for me.  There is no apparent option for USB when I go through the procedure stated.  Any suggestions?

Re: DeskJet F4280: Shared network printer only prints test page

I found a solution to the problem after spending hours on Google.  Go to the computer that the HP F4280 printer is connected to.

Click on Start --> Printer and Faxes

Right click on HP Deskjet F4280 and select Properties

Click on Advanced tab

Uncheck "Enable advanced printing features"

click OK

I too spent HOURS trying to figure this out and just wanted to let you know that this DID in fact work for me also.  Just uncheck "enable advanced printing features"  IT WORKS!

Re: DeskJet F4280: Shared network printer only prints test page

I just followed your advice about unchecking the enhanced option.  I've at least gotten the document into the queue but it's still spooling after 15 minutes!  What now?
