HP 5530 e All In One printer lockup in que

After printing a photo using my windows 8 computer the printer locked up with the photo file in the que. How do I remove the photo file ? I have tried going to the printer Que and have no luck trying to delete.

I have also tried uninstall and re-install of the printer software.

I am able to print using my IPad.

Help please?

Re: HP 5530 e All In One printer lockup in que

SJW25,

If this is still a problem and the print job was one you started on the computer, try restarting the spooler on the computer.

Why?  The jobs on the computer go into a "job spooler service".  If the spooler service gets stuck, hosed, hung, or otherwise occupied, you can hammer on the printer all day long and the spooler service just sits there and spins.  If you stop the spooler service and then restart it, sometimes that is enough to put everything back into order.

One method to restart the spooler:

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services >

Click on "Name" to sort by this column >

Scroll down and look for Print spooler > Highlight Print Spooler >

Click Restart the service

If the iPad still won't print afterwards,

Try a Reset on the iPad >  Press the Home key and the Start key at the same time until the iPad reboots.

This takes from five to about eight seconds or so.  After that, the printing should be available.

Thanks for the reply. I tried resetting the spool but it did not get rid of the pic file in the que. Any other suggestions?

Re: HP 5530 e All In One printer lockup in que

SJW25,

Assuming this is a spooler error at all, then the following might kick it harder.

The "pic file" is a print job of a .jpg file in your computer, yes?

I assume the file does still exist in its original folder location and has not been since "trashed" (put in the Trash folder).

You didn't say what kind of computer you have -- the following procedure assumes a NOTEBOOK.

If you are using a Desktop, the "hard reset" does not directly apply.  You might "fake" a similar reset procedure on a Desktop computer by disconnecting everyting and then unplugging the computer for thirty seconds.

  • Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services >
  • Click on "Name" to sort by this column >
  • Scroll down and look for Print spooler > Highlight Print Spooler >
  • STOP the spoolsv service

Next:

  • Close all your programs and Shut down the computer
  • Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
  • Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook model
  • Switch Off the Printer
  • Boot the computer and log in
  • Open Services and START the Print Spooler Service
  • Switch On the Printer

Reminder:  Hard Reset is just a device Reset.  The Hard Reset procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way.  It just "clears the cobwebs".  Depending on the cause of the problem, this kind of "reset" can fix a variety of computer glitches.
