HP C4580: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer.

Hi,

After having successfully set up the C4580 and run some test printouts which were all very satisfactory, this morning the above message appeared.

The error message box suggests to "Turn the printer off, check your printer connections and check for printer errors, and turn the printer back on."

I tried this, but I'm still unable to print. Any suggestions? By the way my computer is a Mac if this helps.

Many thanks

I would try plug it into a different USB port if there are still empty ones and see waht happens.

Re: HP C4580: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer

Hello,

HP has recently developed a fix to prevent the printer from falling into a non-responsive state. The symptom your reporting sounds like this this issue. Unfortunately, at this time the update is only available for Windows operating systems. However, I believe a Mac solution is likely in process.

So, what's the work around? There are 2: 1) If you have a Windows machine in your computing environment then download the update and use the Windows machine to install it. 2Power cycle the printer by removing the power cord from the back of the unit and reconnect after ~ 30 seconds. You may have to do this from time-to-time, but at least you'll be able to use your printer and all it's capabilities.

Re: HP C4580: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer

I'm assuming the printer is connected wirelessly on your network.  Can you browse the printer's internal web page using the Bonjour bookmark on Safari or by browsing to the printer's IP address?

If so, then we know communications between your Mac and the printer are working.

Is it that you can't print?  Can you scan from your Mac?

You might try deleting the C4580 print queue and then add it again.

Re: HP C4580: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer

So how would you resolve the problem if when you turn it on it goes into an unresponsive state?  The software utility on the website gives me a message that it cannot locate a compatable device and to click refresh once I plug it in.

Windows, however, shows me that it is connected.

Windows Vista 64-bit

USB Connected (eventually want the wireless back)

Before turning the printer on, turn off your router. Then apply the firmware update, then turn on the router and reconnect it wirelessly.

Re: HP C4580: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer

I've been having the same problem. Ever since we got a new router, the printer cannot communicate with it unless I turn it off and back on again - or re-enter the router password on the printer. After I've done that it may print fine the rest of the day or until the computer is shut down. Then I'll have to repeat the process all over again. I've tried the patch. It can't find a device. I've turned off the router and plugged it in the USB. It still can't find a device. I am so frustrated I'm ready to throw the printer out the window! What's the point of having a wireless printer if you have to continue to get up and "fix" it before it will print?

Any other suggestions?

Re: HP C4580: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer

I'm using a mac (OS X - snow leopord) and am printing over the network (wirelessly).

HP Photosmart Premium Fax All in One - C410a

I was only able to print one page and then both my printer and my computer would display an error message about the printer's inability to print.  Since then I've been able to resolve my specific problem.

I

1. uninstalled HP from my computer (checked to ensure that my printer was no longer visible in my printers and the HP Utility software was nowhere to be found),

2. grabbed the software/driver update from Aug, 2010,

3. installed the Aug, 2010 update, and my problems seem to have been fixed.

This is where I got my 2010 update from (obviously you should get the driver/software applicable to your OS and specific printer):

Re: HP C4580: Communication Failure: The computer is no longer able to communicate with your printer

I did step 1 & added the printer back on. thanks, because I was seriously thinking about buy a new and different brand printer. what happens is the ink cartridge is low & it just stop communicating with the laptop, but it would print with the desktop.
