I have an HP CP3525n which is connected via USB to a laptop running Windows XP SP3. I would like to change this to a network connection, but the User Guide for this printer doesn't say what to do if you want to switch from one connection to the other.
Can I have both the USB driver and the network driver installed, and just switch to whichever connection I want by unplugging one cable and plugging in the other one? Not a biggie but might be handy to have the USB around if the network goes down.
If not, do I have to uninstall the USB printer driver before I add the network driver?
Can I just run the Microsoft Add Printer Wizard and create a new TCP/IP port, or do I have to repeat the entire installation from the getgo as if I were installing the printer for the first time?

Hi,
Normally both the drivers can be installed, should be no issue.
Regarding how to install it i am not completly sure as this is a bussines unit and this is the consumer forum. On the consumer units its normally like this. Put the software disc in the computer and wait until the autostart kicks in. When the software sees that there is a driver alltready installed it should ask you what you want to do. Choose add a device and go through the steps choosing network as connection.
not sure if its works the same on your unit, but its something to try :-)

I decided to plug in a network cable and see if the printer got an IP address before I put the disc in. The printer got a valid IP address from the router, so I think I can just run the Add Printer wizard, create a new TCP/IP port, and (re)install the driver. Would you suggest changing the IP address to a fixed IP address first?
Also, what is the simplest way to update the driver after I install it? Just download a newer one from HP and run it or do I have to uninstall the older one first?
Good news about being able to keep both drivers installed. That could come in handy.

HI,
Changing to a fixed ip adres is not required, could be usefull but can be done at any time.
After downloading a new driver its alway a good optio to remove the old one first
