Time will tell if that will work, but I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
It would seem that the higher-ups misfired on this one - as this should have all been well documented for the end user.
To date, there is no software available through Apple Software Update as it states on the HP Support page.
Further to that - I cannot seem to "scan to PDF" anymore and there isn't a twain driver to be found to facilitate this.
I have always supported HP products but this purchase has caused more headaches than value.
Again, thanks for your help.

Update - now I have to reboot my iPad to see the printer...
It's not like I need to print a lot - but it would be nice if things just worked.
Cheers

I suspect its an issue with your router. What router are you using?

SMC routers have known issues with HP printers, sorry. Do you have another more standard router (Linksys, Netgear, etc) to try?
If not, here are a few more ideas:
1. Make sure the IP address you set for the printer is outside the DHCP range (the pool of IP addresses the router pulls from).
2. Change the router to channel 11.
3. Reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Thank you.
I noticed something this morning.
After spending HOURS trying your solution - same issues. But I noticed that if I restart my iMac the printer is there and online.
I'm about ready to box this back up and return it.
Shame - it's a great little printer - when it works.
Cheers!

Maybe you could disable sleep on your iMac (System Prefs > Energy Saver). I have mine set this way so that it is always available to me. Of course, I put the display to sleep after just a few minutes and I have also checked the box next to "Put hard disks to sleep when possible".

I also have 'computer offline' issues when everything is on, the envy screen says wireless on and full strength, etc.
Using macbook air, os 10.6.8.
Following your directions, went into my wireless network but did not see the
router's multicast/IGMP proxying and enable them if they are not .
instead my wireless shows a bunch of proxy options that are not multicast or gmp. I enabled Auto proxy discovery, which did not need an address, and also enabled Automatic Proxy Config which needed an address so I copied the one from the printer setup utility usb://HP/Envy%20100%20D410%20series?serial
do you have another suggestion? I can only get my envy printer to work plugged in, not wireless, although it has in the past. I don't remember what i did then...
thanks for any ideas.

Are you using an SMC router? Do not enable any proxy settings unless you have a proxy server running.
Did you try channel 11? Did you try setting a static IP address?

I have a 'wireless N' router I bought new by medialink. I have a dsl box it's connected to with an ethernet cord. I live out in the country, and this is a private single connection. The router is a good one which broadcasts all over the house/deck/etc.
After writing to you, someone else suggested I re-install the hp envy driver, which I did. that seems to have worked.
