HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

I'm trying to connect my networked Laserjet to my MacBook. It's identified in the 'add printer' window, and tries to install software for the printer, but the process fails with the message:

The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software.

Does anyone know what that's about?

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

Hi,

Try the following steps and let me know if that helps:

Connect the printer to your Mac using a USB.

Click the Apple Icon, then click Software Update ang install the HP Printer Drivers 2.9.

After updating the software you may seitch to Ethernet connection and add the printer using the Plus button under Print & Scan.

If updating the driver via Apple Software Update fails as well, download and install the following package:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL907/en_US/HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg

Then you should be able to add the printer with no issues.

Shlomi

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

I followed your advice - removed the ethernet cable, connected by USB and tried to download the driver from Applie as you say, but I got the same error message.

I then downloaded the .dmg file and installed the driver with that, and went on to install the printer. It started looking for a driver, but seemed to me to be ignoring the fact that one is already installed, told me to connect to a power source as if it were about to download from the internet, and then failed yet again with the same error message I posted earlier.

So no luck with any of these routes!

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

I'm sorry to hear the problem still persists.

Let's try repairing the disk permissions to deny any possible cause:

1. Open the the Applications folder.
2. Go to the Utilities folder.
3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the proccess has been completed.

After finishing this process, follow the HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg installation once again and try adding the printer under Print & Scan.

Can you see any progress now?

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

Well, I've done all of that (Steps 1-5) and reinstalled the dmg file. And I've reconnected the machine by USB to the printer, and tried install the printer. It's recognised, and OSX want to install it, but still seems to ignore the installed driver and goes looking for one on the net ('software for this printer is available from Apple - would you like to download and install it?), then fails to install reporting the error message first posted above. Very frustrating this, for what ought to be a simple plug-and-play matter between two of the world's largest IT players.

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

The package installation should add any HP driver to your system. it seems as any permission problem may affect the driver installation

Please try adding the printer by clicking the Plus button.

Then click the latest drop down menu Print Using and then click Select Driver Software.

From the list, select HP Color LaserJet CP1510 Series.

If the driver does not listed, I would recommend you to try creating a new Administrator account, install the driver on it and check for any change:

To create a new user account, perform the following steps:

1. Open System Preferences from the Dock or via Apple menu.

2. Click on the 'Accounts' preference

3. Click the Lock to authenticate and enter your password

4. Click the '+' under the list of users

5. Set the 'New Account' type to 'Administrator'

6. Give this new user any name and password that you want

7. Click 'Create Account'

Then login to this new account. Go to the Apple menu and choose 'Log Out (Username)'.
Wait for the login screen and then login in as the new user.

Now download and reinstall the HP Printer Drivers v.2.9:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL907/en_US/HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.dmg

Try adding the printer by clicking the Plus sign under Print & Scan,

Can you see any difference?

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

I've done all of that - created new admin account, logged on to that account, re-installed the dmg driver file, tried to install the printer, had the printer recognised and was offered a driver, then exactly the same as before- the installer tries to find a driver on the net and fails with the same error message as I first posted.

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

Please clarify the exact model number of your printer.

You may find it by printing a configuration report:

Re: HP Laserjet CP1515n and OSX Lion

Hi,

By testing the exact same model I were able to configure the product and could not replicate any similar behaviour.

Please try updating the firmware of your printer, that is one major difference I could notice as your printer have a very outdated firmware version:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=lj-68735-6&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...

After updating the firmware, try adding the pritner and check foir any difference.

If the same issue persists, please try the following steps:

  1. Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan.
  2. Click the Plus button and select the pritner.
  3. Click the Print Using drop down menu and then click Select Printer Software.
  4. Type CP1510 into the Filter search box - Can you see the HP Color LaserJet CP1510 Series listed?
If so select it, click OK, Then click Add.
  5. If you cannot see the specific model listed, type PCL into the Filter search box - Can you see the HP Laserjet Series PCL 4/5?
If so select it, click OK, Then click Add.

Please let me know of any change, and if the same persists clarify the answers for steps 4 and 5.

Regards,

Shlomi
