HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A e-all-in-one has stopped printing from my computer

My 8500e has been working fine for months.  My computer is an HP HPE Phoenix h9t.  I'm running Windows 7.  The printer is set up on the wireless network.  This week it just quit printing.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, downloaded diagnostics.  You name it, I've done it.  Nothing in my network or computer setup has changed.  I can set up the wireless on the printer itself--it sees my wifi network, I enter the security code, I can print the wireless network test report from the printer itself, everything is pass and excellent.

Then when I install the software on the computer, tell it I have an IP address from the printer, which is connected wirelessly, I put in the IP address from the display screen on the printer and computer searches then says it can't find it.  I have also reset the printer to factory defaults.  No go.

We are definitely on the same, secure home network.  However, now when I enter the IP address that the printer is giving me into IE, to see if I can see it that way, it can't find it.  Is that where the problem is?  How do I fix that?

I am WAY beyond frustrated, my work is frighteningly behind, and my husband can't airprint from his iPad.  I have searched the forum and can't figure this out.

Thanks for reading through my litany of woes...

Download and run this utility: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-104282-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...

What does it say?

Re: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A e-all-in-one has stopped printing from my computer

I am having the same issues. Was working in the morning then all of a sudden in the afternoon it stopped printing. Turned it (the printer) off and on, modem off and on, computer off and on, ran HP diagnostics, still no printing. Printer will print test page from printer but nothing from two computers hooked up to network.

Print a Wireless Network Test from the Network menu on the front of the printer.  Is it connected to your network?

Re: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A e-all-in-one has stopped printing from my computer

Well, it's finally working, after two more days of hair-pulling.  It was always connected to the network, we (computer and printer) were on the same network.  Diagnostics did nothing.  It just quit working after working seamlessly with my new computer for two months, and my previous HP PC for a year.  The printer could not be found from the computer.  At all.

I removed, rebooted, everything I could think of and all the suggestions I found here.  I finally shut everything down, unplugged the printer, rebooted (unplugged) the router (Linksys/Cysco E2000), and when I turned on the printer and checked the wireless settings, it all at once had a new IP address, without me running wireless network set up again on the printer.  I then reinstalled the software on the PC, and it found the printer immediately--no entering the IP address.

The printer is now seen on iPads and iPhones again, which was another thing that had been lost at the same time I lost printing capability.  So I'm a happy girl.  I'm giving kudos to everyone, b/c who knows which mojo to the universe did it?  (Although maybe it was rebooting the router with everything shut off...)

Thanks to all,

Robin

Re: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A e-all-in-one has stopped printing from my computer

Great!  As a final step, I would recommend setting a static IP address for the printer:

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.1.100 to .149.  Let's use 192.168.1.200 for your printer.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
- Click 'Apply'.

Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

Re: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A e-all-in-one has stopped printing from my computer

I recently upgraded to Microsoft Office 2010 Suite of Products, and since then, my 8500A stops printing.  After I disconnect power, and reconnect it, it works for 30 minutes or so, and then, after sitting unused for perhaps an hour or more, it will not respond to a print command.   It will however allow a scan to occur.

What is up?

What router?  Have you set a static IP as described above?

Re: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A e-all-in-one has stopped printing from my computer

Hi, Mr. HP:

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know what you mean.  I guess I had used this reply because I didn't know how to start a new case, and the problem seemed similar.

I don't think I have a different IP address.  Can you tell me why else my printer would act like this, and what you recommend to resolve it.

Fred

Re: HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A e-all-in-one has stopped printing from my computer

I am not sure.  I suspect it is either your router or something on your PC; maybe the HP software, antivirus software or even the OS itself.

What router are you using?

What operating system?
