I am not sure I understand.  Did the printer freeze up loading firmware or did your computer freeze loading the driver?  Printers don't accept drivers, computers do.

OK, understood.  Now I need to know what operating system and from where did you get the hp software?  What security suite are you using (Norton, McAfee, etc)?

[ Edited ]

The security system is Trend Microtitanium Internet Security on Microsoft Windows 7. The software came with the printer for the HP Officejet 6500 E709 Starter CD. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Printer problem

OK, let's get the printer working first.  It sounds like it is hung up.

Let's reset it from the front of the printer:

Turn it off using the power button.

Hold # and 6 keys while and just after turning it back on with the power button.

Now, also from the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard. Follow the instructions to get the printer connected to your router.

Now, do not use the CD for software, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Driver" link at the top of this page.

OK, can you unplug the power from the back of the printer, wait 15 seconds, then holding # and 6, plug back in and turn it on?

Re: HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Printer problem

Great and thanks! Now, can you help me with the other two issues that make up the bulk of the problems I've having. First, I have the CD that HP provided " HP Officejet 6500 E709. I'm still trying to connect the wireless feature of the printer. Also, the "Scanning" feature is also not responding. When I press the "SCAN" and or "START SCAN" the panel reads "NO SCANNING OPTIONS". Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!
