HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g Devices and Printers Page Is Slow to Open

Hello, I have HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, model N911g, installed as a wireless printer.  I have Windows 7 64-bit.  My Devices and Printers page takes over two minutes to open.  While I am waiting, if I go to Print Spooler Services and click Restart, the page opens right away.  Once the page is open, in the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus device, I ran Troubleshooter and it took about 1/2 hour to finish, and it reported and supposedly fixed a problem in the Print Spooler service.  The assigned Port looks like a recovered port.  However, if I restart the PC and try to open Devices and Printers again, the delay is still present.  I had trouble installing the HP program including the Scan to PC functionality, because response time was so slow.  Now it's installed and working, but the HP program is quite slow to open.  The spinning circle spins and then stops, almost like it has given up opening the program. Then several minutes later the program opens or the requested action begins.

Check the document I linked below. Step 6 might be the solution you are looking for but it will not hurt to start from the top.

Re: HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g Devices and Printers Page Is Slow to Open

Hello and thanks for the suggestions. I tried them, and all seems to be working except for this two minute delay opening the Devices and Printers page. The trick of resetting the Print Spool service during the wait seems to open Devices and Printers right away. Once it's open the HP program opens right away. Otherwise the HP program takes about four minutes to open. If I then select scanning to the PC there is another 4-5 minute wait. In Word 2003 if I go to print a document it takes 1-2 minutes for the print dialog box to open. I have run the three HP diagnostic programs and get a normal (if slow) result -- Network, Printer, Scanning. I have tried Windows troubleshooting and Fixit programs which validated the network printer installation but didn't speed things up. It seems to come down to the Dell XPS PC with Windows 7 finding the network printer and overcoming some issue with the printer spooling service. I have a Lenovo T61 laptop with Windows XP from work, which sees the printer right away on the wireless network. There were tips on the Internet on resetting the printer subsystem (on the Dell) and assigning a local port linking to the wireless network, that didn't seem to work. I can share screenshots and diagnostic logs if that would help. Thanks for your ongoing support.

Re: HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus N911g Devices and Printers Page Is Slow to Open

I believe the problem is now resolved.  Long story short, the problem appears to have been due to the presence of a second printer, a Brother HL-5340D.  It is connected with a USB cable.  It may have been installed using an incorrect driver.   It seems to have been interfering with the Print Spooler and other functions.  The Devices and Printers page opens normally now.   Thanks for everyone's assistance and advice.
