HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

Recently installed HP Photosmart 5510 "All in one Printer".  It works great ( can scan, and print from pc and mobile device)...however there is one issue that I am not sure if its normal.  While in power save mode or it powered up, printer will indicate that it is connected to the wireless network and IP will be present in router arp.  However, if there isn't any activity for a period of time I will need to turn the printer wireless off and then back on to "wake" it back up.  I verfied home network settings in my AVG firewall and all is good.  Any thoughts.

Thanks...

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). You can find the DHCP range of the router using its internal settings page or in its manual. Use the CD that came with your router or type the router's IP address (ends in .1) into a browser.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
- Click 'Apply'.

Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

I have the same problem.  Though my printer indicates that it is still connected to the router, none of my comptuers or iOS devices can see it.

I have set a static IP for it and it lists that.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

If you are using Windows, download and run this utility: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e17-1&h_keyword=dg-NDU&ju...

What does it say?

What router are you using?

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

I am using a 2wire from AT&T unverse. When it is I can not print it tells me that it can not find the printer. I have computers running vista (32), win7 (64), and ios5 devices. They all have the same issue.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

OK, ATT routers (like most ISP-supplied routers) are not the best....

Set a static IP address as instructed above.  If you have already done that, put 8.8.8.8 in the first DNS field and 8.8.4.4 in the second DNS field.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

Thank you very much.  This worked.

Perhaps the FAQ on the site should be updated to indicate that the DNS should NOT be the router IP address, but what you listed.  It would have saved me many phone calls and unproductive discussions with HP and ATT support.

Thanks

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

I'm having EXACTLY the same issues with a Photosmart 5510 B111a - my switch is a Cisco 520W.

I've tried a static IP with no luck; and couldn't find the DNS settings on the printer,.

What next?

Use you browser and I. Put your printers ip address. Find it by pressing the wireless button in your printer.

In the browser go to the networking page. Set the static ip and Dns servers in there. Restart everything.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

Some more "interesting" notes - I ran the Network Diagnostic Utiility, and it does NOT see the printer's IP, but it DOES see IPs for all of the other devices on my network (2 computers and a bunch of AV gear).   The printer is ALSO NOT "pingable" from any computer;  but, I did see it's DHCP lease from my router control page (before I switched to static IP).

I don't have a setup right now that will let me trace packets;  but, could probably do that in a few weeks if required.

Thanks!
