Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

Yeah - I'm going to be calling Best Buy (where I bought my printer) tomorrow and starting the refund process.  The problem with the 5510 is that it's either wireless or USB; there's no wired network capabiity.

Pity - HP used to OWN the InkJet market.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

I'm back at my parents' house, and for the time being at least, the printer is working over the network.  My fingers and toes are crossed that it stays this way.

I reconnected everything and went through the router settings one more time.  I decided to try changing WPA/WPA2 to just WPA2 and then restart the router.  Now, I didn't try connecting today before doing that, so who knows, but it's working now and it wasn't last time I was here, so I can only guess that the change I made had a difference.  I'm not sure why that would have made a difference, but whatever -- I'm just glad it works!

It's been 45 minutes so far and the connection hasn't been lost yet.  I'm here another day so I'm going to keep a close eye on it to make sure it holds itself together for the next 24 hours before I go home.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

I have the same issue... The printer works fine but a while after the printer went into sleep mode he garbles his network connection in some way and consequently can't respond to print requests anymore.

I think too that there is some sleep mode issue. I will try a firmware update later and see if it solves something.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

The firmware update I downloaded from the Photosmart 5510 b111a section did not work  because the update  software did not recognize the 5510 b111a driver installed on xp. I tried both basic driver installation pack as well as the 'complete' one. It's so annoying.

I've done some update through the user interface but i haven't got a clue what kind of update carried out by the printer. There is no information during the download and updating process. Maybe the printer carried out some ultimate web ink shopping mall update maybe a firmware update who knows. There is no information at all (kind of update, version etc.).

Anyway the sleep mode issue persists and the printer still don't react  to print requests after he went in to sleep mode (no connection). The only workaround is to go to the printer (still indicating a working wireless connection) and deactivate & reactivate the wireless connection on the touch screen.

But it is complettely pointless to have to roam around continously in order to do some print jobs. I such a case I would prefer a wired printer beside me where I could play with the buttons all day long :smileywink:

All other voodoo didn't work out (fixed IP, manuall WPA2 configuration, change place? etc.)

Some HP guy or lady said that this forum here is peer to peer and  nobody should expect professional help. This is ridiculous. I would like to know which 'peer' will expend effort and time to hack in to the printer in order to see whats happening to the system when it  falls asleep.

Dear HP it's your turn to take a closer look.

Same problem and all of my other wireless are connecting!! Help

Recently installed HP Photosmart 5510 "All in one Printer".  It works great ( can scan, and print from pc and mobile device)...however there is one issue that I am not sure if its normal.  While in power save mode or it powered up, printer will indicate that it is connected to the wireless network and IP will be present in router arp.  However, if there isn't any activity for a period of time I will need to turn the printer wireless off and then back on to "wake" it back up.  I verfied home network settings in my AVG firewall and all is good.  Any thoughts.

Thanks...

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

I'm crossing my fingers. So far setting the static IP and re-installing the software has worked. However, the day isn't over yet. I did have to also reset the IP, by clicking on the "Update IP Address" though.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

[ Edited ]
Hello... Read this entry & a lot of the replies & I am not able to tell if the problem we are experiencing is the same. We purchased a PhotoSmart 5510 yesterday (for the airprint & eprint capabilities). It was working great all night (desktop PC running Windows 7), however after shutting everything down & restarting this morning, we now have the following issue: Wireless Internet/Network Connection appears to be not working properl - pc replies with a message indicating "the connection between your access point, router or cable modem & the internet is broken". I know its on, as the other pc (a laptop), an iphone, an ipad 2 & an android phone can all connect without issue. (note: we have comcast - live in New England). In additon, just prior to the above noted problem, the other devices in the house were no longer detectable on our home network. Some have suggested that the printer & its software have created some kind of an IP conflict, but I have zero clue how to correct the situation. I called HP & the tech said he would call me back when I was back in front of the desktop, but he never called. I have unistalled all of the HP software, I have rebooted the modem & routers...still having this new problem with the network. UGH... Any advice & assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: HP Photosmart 5510 Printer - Wireless Network Connectivity Issues

Well - here's an update (finally!) on my situation.

Because of the issues I was having w/HP AND because I needed a fax; I went out and bought a Canon All-In-One a Frys.  When I gave the sales guy my requirements (fax, copy, scan, print, air-print, ANY brand except HP) he said "you're the 3rd guy today that has said anything but HP".

I got it home and it did exactly the same thing (connected fine but was inaccessible).  So, I went looking at my access point/firewall AGAIN, AND, I discovered a check box that says "AP Isolation".   It turns out that when that's checked, the Cisco SA520 (and I assume ALL Cisco SOHO devices) DOES NOT route between devices on the Wireless LAN.

I unchecked that box, and my Canon started working!    So, I reconnected the HP and lo and behold - it works as well.    So far, it's stayed functional; but I have noticed that if it "goes to sleep",  I have to "wake it up" by pressing one of the buttons.

So - to repeat the other advice here - one of the first things to do is check your access point - AND, if you have a CISCO access point, specifically look for "AP Isolation".
