HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

Sorry for the long post but please someone help me! :smileysad:

I bought my new printer a couple days ago (the 14th actually) and proceeded to set it up on my MacBook Pro with my wireless internet, which is routed through a Linksys router and mainly through my desktop computer (a PC with Windows XP). I used the CD that came with the printer to set it up on my Mac, and it set up fine through USB, but when I try to set up the wireless, I get the following message:

"Device Not Connected: To configure the network settings of the selected device, please connect it temporarily via USB. The device can be disconnected from the USB once the network settings are transferred."

I reconnected it and got the same message over and over again so I decided to set it up on my desktop computer instead. This didn't work either and I received the same message on my desktop that I've gotten on my laptop. So I uninstalled on both computers, reinstalled, and STILL got the same message. At this point, I'm about to throw all electronics in my hot tub and be done with them but instead, I checked (and double checked - and triple checked) the settings on my router through my browser, made sure I knew the SSID and the passphrase and reconnected to the network through my laptop... Once again, the same message. I've tried the Push Network setup, the PIN network setup, I feel like I've tried everything! I'm probably missing something small but fresh eyes are always an asset.

Can anyone help me?! I printed off a Network Test Report as well as a Network Configuration Page and here are the settings I received for both ... if need be, I can also post (some of) the information from my router, in an effort to check everything possible but after two days of trying to set up something that should have taken ten minutes, I'm at my wits end.

Network Test Report:

"Your HP printer cannot find your wireless router. Check that our wireless router is powered on. Check that your HP printer network name (SSID) matches your wireless router network name (SSID) exactly. If they don't match exactly, run the wireless network setup to configure your HP printer."

How do I change my printer's network name to make it match?!

Diagnostics Summary:

Wireless On: PASS

Wireless Working: PASS

Network Name (SSID) Found: FAIL

Security: PASS

Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings: Not Run

No Filtering: Not Run

Connected: Not Run

Signal Strength: Not Run

Other Networks Detected Matching Your Network Name (SSID): Not Run

Wireless Networks Detected: 1

Downlink Count: 0

Channel: Not Run

Although I was given my SSID (which doesn't match my home network - but how do I change this??) and my MAC address (I'm assuming for the printer), I was not given my printer's IP address so there's no way for me to get online to check any settings! Is there any other way to get this IP address?

Configuration Summary:

Communication Mode: Infrastructure

Authentication Type: Open

Encryption: None

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

First, did you load the Mac software from the CD? Did it say it was for your version of OS X?

Let's reset the printer's network settings.  On the control panel go to Setup [Scan] > Network > Reset Network defaults.

Now, when you run the software to connect it to the wireless network make sure the USB cable is NOT connected when you start the software, only connecting it when it asks.

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

I am having the exact same problem with this printer (C4780). I have been attempting for hours to get it to connect wirelessly to my desktop and my laptop. Neither works! They only work via USB. After I read the previous post, I followed your instructions and reset the wireless printer settings from display menu. This seems to have no affect.

The printer keeps thinking that MAC filtering in on, but I have been the my routers properties page (D-Link DIR-615 model) and it states MAC filtering is turned OFF.

Also, the printer does not seem to be catching an IP address. Everytime I run the Network Configuration page, it states the following:

Wireless On: Pass

Wireless Working: Pass

Network Name Found: Pass

Security: Pass

Printer settings consistent with router settings: Pass

No Filtering: FAIL

IP Address: Not Applicable

Configuration Source: Not Applicable

Any idea on what other possibilites there could be to resolve this???

Thanks!

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

Tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

I am running a D-Link, Model # DIR-615, through a cable internet connection, through a WPA or WPA2 security Mode (802.11g) . It is password protected, but I have never had a problem having a wireless devise connect to it. I have been able to connect laptop, guest laptops, my Blackberry 9700 and my PS3 without too many issues. The network is always visible through my other devices.

Also, when I was running the set-up again, and going form the usb - wireless set-up, it tries to connect, then I get an error message stating that the printer is not receiving any data from the router. I am able to go through the process, it detects my network, then it asks for my wireless password which I enter.

When it runs the Network Diagnostic, it sits for a while connecting the printer as follows:

Connecting to printer…
Checking settings for network adapter NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet  ...

Checking wireless radio ...

then I get the follow message:

The printer attempted to join the network but is not receiving any data.  This may be caused by MAC address filtering. If MAC address filtering is enabled and you would like to keep it enabled, add the MAC address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your wireless access point or router before continuing.  Print the Wireless Network Test report from your printer to find the MAC address of your printer.

When I proceed to check the router, it states that MAC filtering is turned off.

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

I think may have figured it out. I have re-installed new firmware for my router and it seemed to resolve issue.

When completing the usb-wireless config, it picked up all my network info.

Will keep you posted if anything else occurs

Cheers

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

Good job.  This was going to be my next suggestion (after recommending WPA or WPA2, which you already use).

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

The only other issue I have come accross is that I know have the printer set up on my wireless network, but when I try to install the softwar on my laptop (Windows 7) it stalls and just sits there for over 30minutes. Most of the software and drivers are installed, but it doesn't complete the set-up.

Any ideas?

Security software getting in the way of the installation?

Re: HP Photosmart C4780 Won't Connect (Wirelessly) to Mac or Wireless Network

I am trying to put new Cartridges in my printer C4780.  I have never had a problem before. When I put the new

Cartridges in, I push them in and then raise them.  They are all in tight, but my printer message board keeps telling me that I have a Cartridge Problem.

I have tried putting them in at least 10 times, getting the same message????
