HP Photosmart D7460 Networked loses Print Processor

Turning off WinXP Media Edition I lose my print processor.

When I configure my printer through Add Printer wizard I get to the last dialouge box( after it tells me my driver is installed) and I click finish and then I receive this error message: "Unable to install Printer. The Print Processor does not exist."  I have downloaded the latest driver from HP and I have updated my bios from Dell and I have SP3 installed.

My only work around to date is to completly uninstall HP Drv., reboot, and reinstall HP Drv., redetect my printer on my Ethernet Network and then it is reconfigured and everything is fine.  When I had this printer first installed through a USB port I had the same problem and work around.   This will happan when ever I turn the machine off, if the computer Hibernates instead I will not have this problem.

I have scrounged MS Tech Net fro a hot patch and have found none.

I have a Win2000 Pro on my network and it has never dropped my HP D7460 when I reboot.

The printer has been networked for nine months.

Does HP have a solution?

Re: HP Photosmart D7460 Networked loses Print Processor

Have you tried this procedure (choosing a Local Printer being non-intuitive, IMHO):?

- Select 'Local printer' in the Local or Network Printer dialog box.

- Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.

- In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and configured. Click "Next" button.

- Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address or the printer's hostname (preferred).  You can find IP address and hostname by printing out the printer's Network Configuration page.

- Now, select your driver (sounds like you have done this before) from the list of printer models and click 'Next' button.

- The Printer name will be highlighted on the next window. Click 'Next' button.

- It will ask for the Printer name -- leave the default value.

- Click 'Yes' for making the printer default. Click 'Next' button.

- The Print Test Page box appears.

- Select 'Yes' to print a test page.

- Click 'Finish' button to complete the installation.

Yes, i have done this and it works untill I shutdown the computer and reboot, then I will lose my printer and have to reinstall the printer through the network or locally by adding  "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port.

Re: HP Photosmart D7460 Networked loses Print Processor

If the print setup is not surviving a reboot, it sounds more like a problem with your computer.  Have you tried posting on the computer forums?

When you Add a Printer have you tried selecting different drivers?  I doubt that would make a difference but it may be worth a shot.
